Spider-Man Box Art Reveals Final Character

It looks like the final shattered dimension will involve a black-suited Spider-Man.

GameFly revealed, and then quickly removed, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions' box art, which showed a black-suited Spider-Man as the final character.

The dimension could be a symbiote dimension or some sort of throwback to Marvel's Secret Wars mini-series from 1984, which first introduced Spider-Man's black suit. In the teaser at the end of the video from the previous dimension reveal, the popular rumor was that it was a symbiote dimension, so this revelation is in line with previous speculation.

Specifics about the fourth and final dimension will be detailed soon as IGN is currently promising a reveal on July 21, and there is a Comic-Con panel scheduled on July 23. The other three dimensions are Amazing, Noir, and 2099.

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions comes out in September 2010.

Regular symbiote Spider-man from the 1980's, or more than meets the eye?

It would be awesome if you got to fight in the Secret War.

It would. The final dimension being the Beyonder's Battleworld would be pretty cool... still, I have a feeling it might be something else given the teaser trailer which seemed to hint at a "mouth" (either from Spider-man or another symbiote character, which would rule out Secret Wars)

I know. Since Spider-Man 3 was the last movie, that's probably what they will go for, since only people like us have any idea what the Secret War even was. It's too bad, but maybe it's something they will consider in the future, since it was the origin of the symbiote suit.

I wouldn't say that. After all, it's only people "like us" who even know what Noir or 2099 are. ;-)

Average fans do not.

I simply don't think it will be going from the trailer, and be something more rooted in it being the symbiote than its Secret War and Battleworld origins.

KevinKablamoJuly 15, 2010

I hope it's not the symbiote, but it looks like it'll be that way.

And how did I miss the news of Spider-Man 2099? That is awesome.

I kept updating the original Talkback thread with all the updates (except for this one).

Caint wait for this one to hit the streets, I haven't been excited for a spidey game since Ultimate Spider-Man.

Cool lock on camera and that unreal "shiny dude" engine feel. I hope the base jumping in 2099 doesn't get repetitive.

How does Spidey 2099 see anything?

I don't think it'll have much to do with Secret Wars, since that wasn't actually under the "Spider-Man" banner. My gut says Ultimate, since the damn symbiote has been such a big part of that series.

Hmm... Spider-man does merge with Carnage during the Ultimate Spider-Man game, so its quite possible:

Might seem like a retread for the company, but it would match with the teaser... although doesn't fit with the currently seen box art image. Still, Ultimate Universe is a good guess. Its a separate universe and has a symbiote arc to draw on (although I don't think the Ultimate Universe is really known for the symbiote angle, but then they already created a game on that universe and might be looking for a diverse angle anyway).

It's been said that the boxart this story is about is actually a fake.
photoshopped to look like symbiote Spidey.

It was reported somewhere that Activision confirmed it was the box art, but wouldn't comment further on it.

Average fans of what? Of the movies? Because your "average" Spider-Man comic book fan sure as hell knows 2099 at the very least.

TJ SpykeJuly 21, 2010

Comic book fan, i.e. hardcore fans. I love Spider-Man, but I don't read comics (any). I have HEARD of 2099, but I know nothing about it. To me, the best Spider-Man was the one in the 90s Fox show.

broodwarsJuly 21, 2010

Yeah, I've seen all the animated series and movies (and played most of the GCN era-onward games) based on Spider-Man, and before this game I'd never heard of Spider-Man 2099.  Considering that the average Spider-man fan probably hasn't even had as much exposure to the character as I've had, I really have to wonder how many people in the general public are actually aware of that universe.

Well, how much of the general public knew about the symboite suit before Spider Man 3 came out in theaters? This game could expose a large number of people to the comic series they have missed during the years.

I'm a huge fan of 2099 but will admit that it's pretty obscure. It's a very pleasant surprise to see it finally show up in a video game. I hope Shattered Dimensions performs well and Activision considers doing a full 2099 game. I saw this game at E3, by the way, but the demo was very short and the developers were being coy with all my probing questions.

I would feel sorry for that person.........

BUT, broodwars and TJ Spyke are today's average fan of Spider-Man. 2099 Spidey is more familiar to the comic book purchaser/reader/enthusiast, which would make that person well above average or even "hardcore"

It's just like you have fans who know about Nintendo(Mario, Donkey Kong, Wii), and then you have those who dedicate their time to sit and discuss some of the most INTRICATE details and OBSCURE games on a site ran by fans even MORE dedicated than those aforementioned, if you know what I'm saying............

Quote from: jrlibrarian

Well that's what the Movies do, bring more confusion and arguments with someone who has read the comic or just watched the 90's cartoon, but this game isn't for the Movie only fan, it's too deep in tho the comic book realm. Think bout the Watchmen, the avrage movie goer was like "wow look at his huge shlong!" and "what are the talking about again"

The unfortunate thing about 2099 is that the comics had a short (three year) run in the mid-90s and have rarely been referenced in popular culture since that time. So even if you have been a devoted reader of Spider-Man comics for the past decade, you may not be familiar with the 2099 series.

Well the last dimension is Ultimate.Activision just revealed it at ComicCon.Look is going to be celshaded.

BlackNMild can you make a topic about the game.

As a big fan of the Ultimate Spider-man video game on the GameCube and the Spectacular Spider-man animated series, I definitely approve of this being the last dimension in the game (and I approve even more of making that world cel shaded).

I love being right.

Kytim89July 22, 2010

I just hope the wii version of this game does not suck as bad as the wii version of Web of Shadows. That game looked like a really bad PS1 game and was very lousy in both story and controls.

I am slighly dissapointed that the Marvel Zombie universe was put inti the game, but Ultimate Spider-man is good enough for me to enjoy the game.
