Masahiro Sakurai hints at potential a versus mode, as well as the use of 3DS features that extend the features of the original DS.

In an interview with the UK magazine GamesMaster, Project Sora director Masahiro Sakurai indicated that his latest project, Kid Icarus Uprising, might feature online play. Revealed during Nintendo's E3 media briefing back in June, the 3DS title is the first for the Kid Icarus franchise in two decades.

In the interview, appearing in the September issue of the magazine, Sakurai mentioned that his team was testing possible implementations of online gameplay. He stated that, "There could be some versus play" but did not elaborate, only noting that the 3DS had a lot of functionality that expands the capabilities of the DS that "people are taking advantage of."

which lesson will they learn from brawl online?

1) It does not matter how bad quality and broken online is, the game will sell regardless
2) Own up to broken online system and work overtime to make sure it works well for this game
3) Online was broken and cost money for servers so its not worth it in the long run and likely not to have online at all

4)Get more servers. Brawl's online was perfect for the first few months, then got super laggy as more people started playing online.

it was always laggy for me, i got it on launch.

TJ SpykeJuly 12, 2010

I played it online right from launch, I would get lag maybe once every 10 times I connected. It wasn't until about six months later that he became a regular problem for me.

Icarus doesn't have as rabid and mangy a fanbase as smash bros, give me a break. That they're considering online for a game like this a good sign.

I had Brawl day 1.  It took over a week for it to recognize that Jon Lindemann and I had added each other as friends.

Nintendo's online has gotten better since Brawl.  Mario Kart Wii is much better than Brawl ever was.

I think Brawl was a game that was too fast, with too much going on to work well online...but they tried anyway, and it was foolish.
It also did not help that Nintendo had a horrible matching system, underwhelming servers, many other problems.

I think Nintendo has learned many lessons from Wii online, but are also somewhat stuck with the online structure.  Perhaps with the 3DS they can build a better experience through better infrastructure and tech.

Right ON! My 10 year old son and all his big head friends represent most of the kids that play Brawl and they had no clue who Pit is or where he came from. And when I showed them the NES game they laughed

WE, will buy Kid Icarus day one but Nintendo will have to set up a MEAN  ad campaign to sell this one like gang busters.

Ever play Marvel Vs Capcom 2 online? The speed is possible, but the effort must be there too.

Hopefully the 3DS is our beginning to a nel day of Nintendo connectivity abroad, I dream they try their best here, learn from the mistakes and deliver us GOLD on the home console.

I played Brawl pre-launch against Windy.  It ran the smoothest I've ever seen it run and there was still slight lag between button presses and on screen events.  It was never perfect.

I like to hear things like this though.  What he is essentially saying is "The 3DS has so many online features, of course we are looking for ways to utilize them."

Sounds good to me.  Here's hoping for an achievement clone/rip-off. :)

"Star Get!
Bronze Star Unlocked: Eggplant Delight!"
Description: Have Pit get turned into an eggplant 10 times.

I WANT THIS achievement type system!

I thought this was a single-player game, so I wonder what type of mode it could have for online play...

If it does turn out to be a high score type of game, some awesome high score lists with properly integrated friend tracking would be plenty for me.

Maybe even go so far as to have saved replays that you can view, a la Ikaruga on live arcade?
