While the PSP is still the best selling system the Wii tops the PS3 in this week’s Media Create hardware charts.

Following Media Create’s software sales chart, they have released the hardware sales chart for the week of June 7 through June 13. The top selling console was Sony’s PSP, which sold 21,662 units. The top selling home console for the week, however, was the Wii at 20,588 units sold. For the first time in weeks the Wii has topped the PlayStation 3 in sales.

Three versions of the DS also appeared on the charts. First on the chart is the DSi LL, selling 11,138 units. Following it is the DSi at 10,172 units sold. Right behind the Xbox 360 is the DS Lite with 3,108 units sold.

is this just in Japan or what? since when was the psp the top selling anything?

Yes, Media Create means it's Japan.

Why is the PSP selling relatively well? Are there any games currently selling well on it, or are the Japanese buying it for its many other uses?

Monster Hunter and all of its clones/knockoffs. Plus a lot of JRPGs.

I knew the headline was wrong, the PSP was not the best selling system. The best selling system was the DS as usual.

If you combine both skus of the DSi, you are right

If they did it like NPD, the 3 SKUs of the DS (Lite/i/LL) would be head to head with the PSP-3000 and PSP Go...
