Metroid: Other M, Sin & Punishment 2 Delay?

Some online retailers are listing revised launch dates for both titles.

NeoGAF Forums user DarthButcher has posted that, according to his retail sources, Metroid: Other M and Sin & Punishment 2 might be delayed.

Apparently, some internal retailer lists are showing Metroid as changing from a June 27 date to TBD, while Sin & Punishment 2 has moved from its original slot of June 6 to occupy the June 27 date. On the web, Wal-Mart now lists Metroid: Other M as releasing on September 1, while Best Buy has it pegged for August 15. Best Buy also lists Sin & Punishment 2 as a June 27 release.

No official word has come from Nintendo themselves, and their release lists have not changed. Nintendo World Report will have more updates as they break.

As I mentioned in the rumors thread here at NWR, I think we should take a wait and see approach. Not only are the dates still set in stone by Nintendo, but retailers Amazon.com and GameStop (among others) still list Metroid: Other M as coming out on June 27.

SundoulosApril 22, 2010

Either way, I suppose it's okay with me.  I have a huge backlog to work through, anyway. :)

I agree, this should be taken with a grain of salt.  But from years of watching retail release dates, I can tell you with confidence that those dates are coming from SOMEWHERE.  They don't get updated by accident.

Get out of 'ere, Merftroid.  This summer belongs to a real game that doesn't play for you.

broodwarsApril 22, 2010

As I said elsewhere, if this rumored delay is to add nunchuck functionality the game should have had in the first place, I'm all for this.

I was half-expecting Metroid to fall back to August/September. Delaying S&P2, when it's already so late after the Japanese release and has virtually no localization, makes less sense to me. Unless they've decided to actually advertise it and want the extra time to tell people that it exists...

BlackNMild2k1April 22, 2010

I mentioned this in the Rumor thread since

I agree, this should be taken with a grain of salt.

But it would be nice if this was to add wiichuck support along with a little polish and tweaks.

But it could just be because Nintendo sees how NSMBW still tops charts and wants to give SMG2 some time stretch it's legs before S&P2 gets drowned out in Mario HYPE.
which would also be helpful if, like Johnnyboy said, Nintendo plans on actually advertising this game.

Nintendo decided to add the Super Guide to Merftroid.  Shows you how to properly "hold Right" and "tap A" to automatically auto-aim.

Is it sad that I could actually see them doing that (that, and probably going through every line of text bolding every important word of dialogue)?  :-\

And no, there is no NunCharlieBrown support.  Sakamoto/KojiIgarashi is the real father of this series and he knows what's best for it, so all Nintendo fans should just sit back and watch him have his way.

*struggles to hold back the laughter triggered by that statement.*

That game will be lucky to get a one paragraph blurb, an image, and a link in Nintendo's email newsletter.

Considering I haven't liked any of the non-Retro Metroids except for Zero Mission (yes, I can acknowledge that Super Metroid is "a good game", but I still don't like actually playing it), Sakamoto can go fly a kite if he's that stubborn.

TJ SpykeApril 22, 2010

I have to agree with brood, the Prime games are IMO the best games in the series. Metroid: Zero Mission was fun,but Retro Studios have done a better job with the series than one of the creators (there were several people involved). Hell, the guy wanted it to be a on-rails shooter until Team Ninja convinced him how bad that would have been.

Actually, S&P2 has a lot more localization than you'd think.  There are a lot of voiced cut-scenes.  But that should have been finished months ago.

You make it sound like the type of on rails shooter he wanted was a Resident Evil type, which absolutely wasn't his idea.

Aren't the voices already in English? They were in the first game.

The only reason I would care about this is if it were to impact the Zelda launch date.

No, but the English version is supposed to include both the original Japanese and English.

Technically, Zelda never had a release date. Holiday 2010 was the target and "ready when it's done" was the last official statement I remember.

Anger...seething.

Unless they let Miyamoto step in I doubt that. Sakamoto wants NES controls and the only ones who could override his decision are Miyamoto and Iwata.

If Miyamoto and Iwata don't care enough about this game to intervene on that matter when seemingly just about every impression I've seen complains about the lack of Nunchuck support, that's a very troubling sign.

Time to re-open the Metroid Dread campaign.

Maybe Miyamoto and Iwata support Sakamoto in this.  Nintendo loves the NES-style control scheme.  You can argue that it doesn't make sense to use it in this case but it hasn't made sense LOTS of times.  It supports Nintendo's flawed vision of the remote being the "new controller standard" and they're not above shoehorning controls in a remote-only design in other games, so why not this one?

I personally want classic controller support.  Though this rumoured delay, if real, might just be for extra polish.  Maybe they're just falling a bit behind and need another month.

True, Nintendo has never been a fan of supporting their own peripherals, so why start now?  It's not "unique" to have the best control setup possible, so let's just use an NES controller.  ::)

BeautifulShyApril 23, 2010

Well I don't think this is going to come to pass. I think Nintendo will show off their second half of the year release dates and I think that Other M won't be on that list.

NinGurl69 *hugglesApril 23, 2010

That's right.  2011.

BeautifulShyApril 23, 2010

Silly Pro I meant it is coming out at the original release date.

BeautifulShyApril 23, 2010

Well I can't be right all the time...:/

There is also some release dates for DSiware and wiiware games.

LOOK NO SHANTAE RELEASE DATE

LOLOLOLOL

BeautifulShyApril 23, 2010

Don't you have games to play?

NinGurl69 *hugglesApril 23, 2010

I recommend Escape from Fun Island.  This is the true Monster Hunting experience.

broodwarsApril 23, 2010

Well, we'll probably see a much larger presence from Other M at the Press Conference now, maybe to cover for Zelda possibly not coming out this year?  Hopefully they'll see reason and use that time to add nunchuck support.  It's not unprecedented considering didn't Twilight Princess get a delay after its last E3 to tweak the Wii version's controls according to feedback from the show?

Yes it was. My guess is that Other M was delayed for development reasons not strategic. Which is a good thing IMO. Perhaps they will implement other control schemes.

Hmmmm...well, it could very well be delayed so that it can be the "talk of E3." It'll get tons of press coverage and hype RIGHT before release, which could lead to better-than-usual sales for a Metroid game.

The problem is that Prime Corruption also released shortly after its last E3, and it even got healthy presence at the Press Conference.  It still didn't sell to Nintendo's expectations.  They'll have to put a lot more effort into promoting Other M if they want to avoid a similar fate.

You mean over 1.5 million copies, which makes it the 4th best selling Metroid game of all time.  I'm pretty sure Nintendo will be quite happy to see Other M meets the same fate.  Not to mention the only expectations ever really said about the game was Reggie mentioned how he'd like the game to do better then Prime 2, which it did by a few hundred thousand.
