Three Wii titles show up this week, but none of them can claim the top spot.

The NPD Group released its results for February 2010 this past week, showing New Super Mario Bros. Wii as the second best-selling title of the month with 555,600 copies sold. Also in the top ten are Ubisoft's Just Dance at number four with 314,300 copies sold, and Wii Sports Resort at number five with 272,800 copies sold.

The rest of the top ten showed strong performances by Xbox 360 games, with four representatives on the list. The number one game was the 360 version of Bioshock 2, with the 2K Games sequel selling 562,900 copies in February. Three games on the list were on PlayStation 3, and there were no handheld games on the list this month.

In the hardware results, Xbox 360 took a victory over the Wii this month with 422,000 units sold compared to Nintendo's 397,900-unit tally. Neither console managed to claim first place, as that distinction belonged to the Nintendo DS, which moved 613,200 units across all SKUs.

The full results are as follows:

Software:

  1. BioShock 2 (Take-Two, Xbox 360): 562.9K
  2. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo, Wii) 555.6K
  3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision, Xbox 360) 314.3K
  4. Just Dance (Ubisoft, Wii) 275.4K

  6. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision, PS3) 252.8K
  7. Mass Effect 2 (EA, Xbox 360) 246.5K
  8. Dante's Inferno: Divine Edition (EA, PS3) 242.5K
  9. Dante's Inferno (EA, Xbox 360) 224.7K
  10. Heavy Rain (Sony, PS3) 219.3K

Hardware:

  1. Nintendo DS: 613.2K
  2. Xbox 360: 422.0K
  3. Wii: 397.9K
  4. PlayStation 3: 360.1K
  5. PSP: 133.4K

There is a Top 20 in the Sales Thread.

Even New Super Mario Bros. Wii can't stand against the might of the Big Daddy, at least for a month.  ;)  Nice to see some good new games in the Top 10, though all the old "favorites" are still there in 11-20. -_-'

I think this is the first time since Halo 3's launch that Xbox beat Wii in monthly sales. Nintendo says they were supply constrained, but it looks bad anyway. Their software sales certainly weren't as good as usual, which casts some doubt on the excuse, or maybe it's just a predictable correlation since a huge percentage of Wii games seem to be sold with new consoles.

It is the same games that keep showing up in the Top 20, so I would connect new system sales to Wii game sales in the Top 10 too.

Lower Wii supply means Bioshock 2 outsells NSMBWii.... barely.

I think the fact that BioShock 2 is the sequel to one of the most popular games this gen helped it out (even though reviewers seem to agree that the sequel is not as good).

I knew Bioshock was critically acclaimed, but I didn't realize it was that commercially successful.

This month shows nothing was very commercially successful.  You'd ask to see clear winners in this situation.

I can't find total sales numbers or sales after 2007, but the Xbox 360 version sold 1.5 million copies in 2007.

Yeah, happens. Evergreens rarely compete with the first release spike of a core title but the core title usually vanishes a month later.

I really wish they would break up DSi, DSlite, DS classic sales. I am curious if people are still buying the older DS versions.

The Media Create sales for Japan shows the separate sales numbers for each DS unit. The original DS is no longer in production and I don't think it has been for a while. The DS Lite is still selling in Japan, though not as much as the DSi, which is now being outsold by the DSi LL. In North America however, I'd think that DS Lite sales are still going strong since it is $40 cheaper than a DSi and $60 cheaper than the DSi XL.

NPD does report them by SKU (so they even report how many each color of the DS sells), I assume you are talking about what they reveal for free though. I do too, unfortunately that info is only available to the people who pay the $20K mothly subscription fee.

Mop is right, they stopped production of the original DS several years ago (although I suppose it's possible to have a few left over, I have seen some NPD reports before and there are games that are 9 years old but manage to sell like 2 copies).

Not too bad for Bioshock duece.

I haven't played BioShock 2 yet but we should be happy it sold so well.  I've got BioShock for my PS3 and it's an amazing game.  When I talk about the competition getting third party game the Wii doesn't - this is the sort of game I'm talking about.  We would be thrilled to have the BioShock series on the Wii and I think we should be happy when a good game sells well, regardless of platform.

Would you rather have BioShock outsell a Wii game or Modern Warfare?

Does it matter? neither one are on the Wii and I don't own any other system.

While they're both good games, I'd probably prefer that Bioshock sell well because I'd rather not see Activision be too successful, as I think the way they do business is bad for the industry.

I'd rather see BioShock come to Wii than another Call of Duty game.
