Firemint's addictive iPhone title is making the jump to DSiWare on February 22.

Flight Control, the popular iPhone game, is coming to DSiWare next Monday for 500 Nintendo Points ($5).

Developed by Firemint, the game has players using touch controls to navigate a busy airfield and land incoming planes. The DSiWare version contains all of the same content of the iPhone application, as well as an additional snow-covered level.

Let the shift begin.

How much does this game cost on the iPhone?

TJ SpykeFebruary 19, 2010

$0.99 (at least in the US store).

That's just a sign that Nintendo needs to allow an open pricing structure for these games unless they include significantly more content than the iPhone game.

I'm sure the dev isn't really trippin' that they are making an extra $4 per purchase, but I'm sure they would rather move 5x the amount of games and make the same money. Product and dev awareness can really help if they ever decide to make a sequel.

Nintendo allows $2 games on DSiWare; they chose to go for $5. This game is worth $5, though, if you don't have an iPhone or iPod Touch. It's one of the best pick-up-and-play casual games I've ever played, though the controls may suffer a bit in the transition to a stylus-based system.

Dunno, I didn't like it that much on the iPod. Got some good mileage out of Army Defender for DSiWare though and that's 200 points.

Nintendo chooses the price, though, even for third-party games.

I was under the impression that Nintendo has to approve the price but the developer gets to suggest what they think it should cost.

Yeah, Nintendo can limit the price range if they feel the developer is going too low/high (e.g. B+ wanted Plättchen to cost 2000 points, Nintendo forced them to go down to 1500 and the market forced them even lower) but the developer still gets to choose within that range. I doubt Nintendo would force FC to be 500 minimum because it just doesn't have as much content as the other 500 point games on DSiWare.

My understanding is that developers suggest a price when they submit the game, and then Nintendo makes the actual decision. Apparently, it is often higher than what the developers suggested, rarely if ever lower. WiiWare and DSiWare are highly controlled markets, and because Nintendo holds the keys, developers have little negotiating power.

You're kidding...wow. I wonder how many of the B+ fanboys would have stood by them at that price. They seem to have a bizarre and rabid following for no real reason.

I'm tempted to try it since I have a few points kicking around and I seem to really be drawn to pickup and play games on DSiWare but I'll wait to hear reviews of how the port turns out.
