Mega Man 4 Rated By ESRB

The fourth Mega Man game will hopefully be hitting Virtual Console soon.

Mega Man 4 was rated by the ESRB recently, meaning that the NES game might be hitting the North American Virtual Console sometime soon.

It was released on the Japanese Virtual Console in February, and the previous three Mega Man games came out in North America in 2008 around the release of Mega Man 9. With the March 1 release of Mega Man 10 right around the corner, it is likely that Mega Man 4, which originally came out in 1992 and added the ability to charge shots, will come out soon.

Mega Man 4

Platform: Wii

Rating: Everyone

Content descriptors: Mild Cartoon Violence

Rating summary:

This is an action-platformer game in which players control a small figure that shoots and jumps its way through sci-fi environments. Players can use an arm cannon to shoot tiny pellets at enemy creatures

(e.g., robotic hippos, caterpillars, and spaceships); effects include small white bursts and brief explosion sounds.

This is one of my favorite Megamans but I have Megaman Collection on the Gamecube.

Good timing, with MM10 coming out. I always liked 4.

Yeah, 4 and 5 are underrated. And Neal, for pete's sake, man. It's called the Mega Buster, not the "Charge Shot."

Bbbuuuttt...It charges!

My error aside, I'm jazzed for this.

MM4 is the only MM game I ever actually owned back on the NES, and as such it is my favorite of the original series (yes, I enjoyed MM2 and 3.  Hush, you.).  In fact, playing it now on the Anniversary Collection it's still the only one of the original batch I can actually beat.  Of course, because I own the Anniversary Collection there's really no reason to buy this again.

The jump and shoot buttons not being switched is more than enough reason to drop $5 on this.

Somewhat related question--why's this game have to be rated by the ESRB again?  Since it's the exact same game that appeared on the Anniversary Collection just a few years aqo I would have thought it would have already been approved.

Because the Anniversary Collection itself is what was rated by the ESRB. Note that the games it contained were not individually rated.

I own the PS2 version of the Anniversary Collection because of the whole idiotic A & B switch on the GCN version.

Um, what? The Mega Buster is the name of Mega Man's normal arm cannon, he has had it ever since the first Mega Man. Mega Man 4 is simply the first game which refers to it as the Mega Buster.

Good timing???? enhh, maybe. Just like with the first three releases, this only speaks to those who either just say "awww man I remember that one it was fun, ohh i hated Ring Man!" or already have the collection. The money spent to have it rated will be more than what they'll make off of it. I am all about retro gaming and re-releases like this but if this is done all the way up to 8 then that's 45 bux! amazon got it for the GC at 17 right now and if you march to that money grubbin' hell hole GameStop, its probably in the under 10.99 section. Rant Ended.......

GKFebruary 19, 2010

The GC Anniversary Collection was unplayable for me as I was also playing MM Zero around the same time thus "getting used" to the swapped buttons wasn't an option. Never played 4, 5, or 6 so hopefully all three titles will be out when 10 releases.

PS2 version 21.63 amazon, free shipping.

Any more reasons.....? :@

I wonder why none of the X series games have made it to the VC?

FX Chip, at least in the case of X2 and X3.

Mid-level suspend?  Wii controller held on its side better replicates the NES pad?  Paying $0.25 on the dollar for Wii points and having over 14,000 points on account?

Mega Man's arm cannon was the Mega Blaster until Mega Man 4 apparently.

Also, this was rated for the Wii, so that rules out any Anniversary Collection confusion.

Touche! But how dos one become so balleriffic in Wii points? I havent seen the Wii points section in Sam's Club?

BlackNMild2k1February 19, 2010

You missed the Rock Band Pepsi Points Promotion.
It was heavily exploited for Wii Point like WoW gold mining.

I just looked this up to be sure, but that is incorrect. Those games use some chip called Cx4, which would probably still pose a problem with emulation.

That's just a name change, and not a new weapon as the wording of the article makes it seem. It's still called the Mega Buster in Mega Man 9 even though it has no charge function.

In Mega Man 4, Dr. Light upgraded it from the Mega Blaster to the Mega Buster, giving it new functionality as well. I'll specify that it adds the charge shot, but it's more than a name change, at least in the context of the game.
