Square Enix to Publish Lostwinds Sequel in Japan

Winter of the Melodias is headed to Asia.

Today Frontier Developments announced that Square Enix will be publishing LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias in Japan and Asia. The game, which has been available in North America and Europe since October and Australia since November, will finally see its Japanese release on December 22.

Winter of the Melodias is the sequel to LostWinds, which launched alongside WiiWare in 2008. It has received much critical acclaim, being cited by Metacritic as one of the top 10 Wii retail or download titles of the year.

The game arrives almost a full year after the original title, also published by Square Enix. LostWinds was released in Japan on WiiWare on December 24, 2008. In North America, the game was published by Frontier Developments, who also developed the game.

Partnership brings the Season Switching "Best WiiWare Game of 2009" to Asia.

With download games, the "publisher" doesn't really do much. All they do is pay the fee to have the game rated (by ESRB, CERO, PEGI, etc.), and maybe do some advertising. The developer does the actual programming.
