For the first time, the Japanese series will see a U.S. release.

Nintendo announced today that Glory of Heracles, a DS role-playing game, is coming to North America on January 18.

The game, which was at E3 2009, is the fifth game in the series, but the first to come out to the west. It originally came out in Japan in 2008.

Steeped in Greek mythology, Glory of Heracles is a traditional RPG written by Kazushige Nojima, who previously worked on Final Fantasy titles and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It will also feature a glossary that gives more detail about all the mythological characters you run into throughout the game.

U.S. LAUNCH OF GLORY OF HERACLES, FIRST GAME IN POPULAR JAPANESE SERIES, SET FOR JAN. 18

Dec. 2, 2009

The wonder of ancient Greece comes to life on Jan. 18, when Glory of Heracles™ launches exclusively for the portable Nintendo DS™ and Nintendo DSi™ systems. The game marks the first in the popular Japanese Heracles series to launch in the United States.

The game is inspired by Greek mythology and written by Kazushige Nojima of Final Fantasy fame. The traditional role-playing game features an engrossing story and a robust battle system. Players can roam the countryside as they encounter new characters and gain experience, or they can visit familiar ancient settings like Athens and Sparta.

Although the plot is fictional, many of the people and places in the game are based on familiar Greek mythology. An extensive glossary provides more details about the places and characters that heroic Heracles encounters. Players will be treated to animated cut scenes on the screens of their Nintendo DS or Nintendo DSi systems.

Players can opt to use the stylus or control pad and buttons to control movement in the game, while the touch screen is required to complete optional challenges used to power up spells or skills during battle.

I'm pretty sure I played this game at E3. I can't say I remember anything besides the fact that I played it. That's not a good sign.

It's always hard to demo RPGs in settings like E3.

True. Even still, does anyone from E3 remember this game?

Hell, has anyone played previous entries in the series?

Actually, I remember distinctly avoiding it at E3 because it looked too involved and I was busy with other things.  I think everybody else did too because I never saw anyone playing it.

I would like ot know more about this game.
I like Greek Mythology and this game is from Nintendo themselves right?

The series was developed by Data East and published by Nintendo (I think). This new game is made by Paon, who are made up of old Data East people.

We don't have any E3 impressions, but from looking at what other sites said, it seems to be a "My First RPG" kind of game. Although that was just from the E3 demo.
