It's clay vs. clay in this update of a classic Super NES game.

Today Interplay announced a resurrection of the Clayfighter franchise, for release next summer via Nintendo's digital distribution platforms. The games will be developed by the original programmer of the Super NES version of Clayfighter, which was released in 1993.

The game is a 2D fighter with an emphasis on humor, featuring characters designed using a claymation art style. The original title's roster included a snowman named Bad Mr. Frosty, an opera singer named Helga, and a piece of taffy named, appropriately, Taffy. There is no confirmation regarding which characters will be brought back in this update; however, the press release indicates that the original characters will be "resurrected".

The Sega Genesis port of the original Clayfighter is available on the Virtual Console for 800 points.

Interesting... I have some fond memories of this one (mostly due to the zany characters), but like I said in the other thread, the gameplay and controls felt a little looser than other fighting games of the day.

Still, a good addition to the library.

Likewise, I always thought it was a great idea with poor execution.  I guess here's there chance to fix that.

Is it a good thing the original designer is working on this?

Heh, a fair point.  I'm actually kind of looking forward to it, but with caution.  CAUTION: CLAY AHEAD
