The latest firmware update fixes a glitch related to Wii Sports Resort.

Last week Nintendo sent Wii gamers a new firmware update. According to Nintendo, the System Menu 4.1 firmware update provides some behind-the-scenes updates that enhance the system's performance.

Players, however, have discovered that the reason for the update is because of a glitch related to Wii Sports Resort. When the game starts, it shows the player an instructional video of how to properly install and calibrate Wii MotionPlus. Whenever a game is played off the SD Card, Wii Sports Resort shows the video again - even if the player has already seen it.

The update is also for the upcoming revamped Nintendo Channel, already available in Japan.

I was forced to get this update because the Wii Shop Channel wouldn't work without it. :(

The updated Nintendo Channel could be interesting, I'll check that out when it comes.

Realy? I am on 4.0 and I was on the shop yesterday....

I didn't have the 4.0 update either so maybe that's the one which is required.

And what were you doing on the shop, Miss I-Hate-Digital-Downloads? ;)

Not that it is any of your business (which it is NOT), but I redeemed a Pepsi download ticket that Mr. Jack gave me.

The talkback section does not acknowledge the existence of the rest of the forum.
If it did, we might have news stories on the front page the same day that everyone (in the forum) knew about it.

BwrJim!July 23, 2009

well, you would just simply think that if they are connected to the site, they would be active in the forums.

broodwarsJuly 23, 2009

Yeah really.  I'm sure the people who write for Talkback are very busy with other site-related work and real life, but if you can't get a news story up within a day or two of it breaking what's the point posting it now (unless it's to do necessary fact-checking)?

StratosJuly 23, 2009

It's also for the non-forum users who only check the main page.

Sure, but you'd think a week later that they would have noticed the little blue light shining from their Wii and the note from Nintendo about the update.  Granted, the note doesn't say what the update's for and I suppose with the Wii library being what it is there could be a lot of people that haven't turned their Wii on in months.

There is more to the site than the forums. I understand that it's hard to see this being an active member of the community, but we get a lot of traffic from non-forum readers.

Yes, this article fell by the wayside, but we still felt that what the update contained was relevant. The news story wasn't intended to inform people of the update but rather to educate them about what was in it. Considering Wii Sports Resort has yet to be released, the news should still be relevant. In hindsight the title could've been more provocative and descriptive, but at this point it's too late.

Also, please keep in mind that the staff consists of only volunteers all with full time obligations to jobs and family. As such, things aren't always as timely as we'd like, but we do our best. I'm not trying to sound like a jerk either, a lot of people don't legitimately realize this, but it is often the reason articles like this one sometimes tend to be a bit late.

A while ago it was understood that forumers are welcome to send news tips to staff.  I guess we stopped caring.

BwrJim!July 23, 2009

hehe, dont worry, im just playing with you anyways.  I realize its a volunteer based job and well if you cant get that special love from the basement dweelers, then it justwouldnt be the same..
