Instead of being the "Darth Vader of skateboards," the final version of the upcoming peripheral will be a "more consumer friendly" white.

In an interview with gamesindustry.biz, Robomodo's Josh Tsui revealed that the Tony Hawk Ride skateboard peripheral that has been shown recently does not feature the final color of the board. Instead of black, the release version of the board will be white.

"The board we've shown so far is like the Darth Vader of skateboards," said Tsui, the director of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions. "We're going with a white board which is more consumer friendly. It's much more iPod-like for want of a better term."

The white board, he added, is more likely to encourage people to step onto it. "That's part of the industrial design of the board, to make sure people know it's a skateboard, but it also looks friendly."

Tony Hawk Ride is scheduled for a fall release and is being developed for the Wii by Buzz Monkey, who is working closely with Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 developer Robomodo.

Hmm. Wouldn't surprise me if they were trying to make the skateboard resemble the Wii Balance Board.

I also wouldn't be surprised if this sold best on the Wii.

The 360 & PS3 crowd aren't exactly the "active" gamers

The Wii version of Shaun White Snowboarding sold best, and I bet the fact that it used the Wii Balance Board had something to do with it. The Guitar Hero and Rock Band games also sell best on Wii, I guess Wii owners are more receptive to games that use peripherals.

I think more Wii owners don't have an elitist snobbish attitude problem. Lots of those 360 and PS3 fanboy people have an attitude that they know  'what a game should be' and 'how a game should control' and limit themselves to the same tried and true formula.

Wii gamers tend not to at least try out the new ideas before bashing them. I totally dig the controls in Excite bots and wouldn't have it any other way.

It could also have something to do with the fact there's a bajillion Wii owners. ;)
