Tecmo Bowl Wii transformed into this Mii-using family-themed football game.

Tecmo has announced Family Fun Football as an exclusive Wii title to be released this fall. The sports title will be an arcade inspired game that incorporates the Miis into its gameplay as well as quirky original characters, such as animals and aliens, interacting in vibrant stadiums and worlds.

Family Fun Football promises to be a sports title that is fun and accessible for players of all ages thanks to intuitive Wii controls that deliver a fun, pick-up-and-play experience. Power-ups can also be used to temporarily enhance a player's stats, which range from speed and strength to passing and interception.

Modes available in Family Fun Football include Simple Playbook, a mode that caters to the casual audience and teaches the basics of gameplay and control; Mascot Mode, in which players can select from many different mascots to play as; and 10 four player mini-games will also be offered.

Tecmo is best known for their football title Tecmo Bowl that originated on the NES. While a Wii sequel was announced, a Tecmo spokesperson has mentioned that "As much as we'd like to say this [Family Fun Football] is a completely different game, it did start out as the 'Tecmo Bowl Wii' project."

The name change is not the end of the Tecmo Bowl franchise, though. A version of Tecmo Bowl is supposedly in the works for Xbox Live Arcade.

Family Fun Football will be released fall 2009.

This game can't be considered "family-themed" unless it allows the players to argue over where the goal line is and get into fist fights.
