Harvest Moon: Animal Parade for Wii and Harvest Moon: Sunshine Islands for DS add new features to the Harvest Moon series and will both be playable at E3.

Today, Natsume officially announced two new Harvest Moon games that will be released before the end of the year. Harvest Moon: Animal Parade for Wii will be released in the fall, while Harvest Moon: Sunshine Islands for DS will be released this summer. Both games will be playable at E3 in June.

Both games will continue the general Harvest Moon storylines, but with new characters and features added in. Animal Parade will utilize WiiConnect24 and enable players to share photos. It will also domesticate previously wild animals, such as penguins, pandas, and monkeys. The Harvest Moon staples, such as farming and courting, will still be present.

In Sunshine Island for the DS the player must raise the previously sunken Sunshine Islands by collecting Sun Stones. By doing so, new characters and places will be unlocked, furthering the story and expanding gameplay. Sunshine Island will retain characters from last fall's Island of Happiness, and introduce new characters as well. Once again, all of the standard Harvest Moon gameplay features will be there.

I think the Wii game is known as Havest Moon:  WAKU WAKU ANIMAL MARCH in Japan.

The trailer, is PRETTY RAD.

Isn't this a bit of an over saturation of Harvest Moon games? I thought some just came out a little bit ago. Also there are the two Rune Factory games on Wii and DS that are competing for the same market share.

Too much HM :/

Well Rune Factory Frontier happens to be the best `Harvest Moon` game, period.

I think they might be on a yearly cycle. Mayhaps Natsume is trying to replicate Activision's success?

But can Harvets Moon really flourish as an annual property? I was always under the impression that it was a relatively niche series. Even including the Rune Factory sub-series it is fairly niche. I don't want to see them run the series into the ground. Guitar Hero and Rock Band seem versatile enough to be pushed like that for an extended period. Harvest Moon and Rune Factory, not so much.

Forget the annual property and focus on RFF for it is UNEXPECTEDLY AWESOME.

I put a few hours into it today.  There's so much crap to be done (or that I'd like to do) that I try to think about all the things I can accomplish in each game day sorta like the first time I played Pikmin.

At the base, at the most routine levels, you farm.  Farming leads to cash, cash leads to upgrading gear and inventory, new stuff allows for more effective adventuring, adventuring leads FARMING IN ADVENTURE AREAS.

HOLY SHIT, THIS GAME IS INSANE.

Then there's the cooking, smithing, monster befriending, and girl-stalking, which all supplement and enhance the "base" experience.  OMG why is this game going unnoticed?
