Strong Bad sees more sales of his cool game thanks to an attractive storage solution.

With Wii storage space no longer being a problem for players, they have been downloading more games.

Telltale Games' Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive people has seen massive benefits from the 4.0 update. Thanks to the new storage solution, sales of the game's episodes have more than doubled. Given the game's episodic nature, players can now download all of the parts of the game without worrying about memory constraints.

Telltale CEO, Dan Connors proclaimed this is "a major step forward for episodic gaming."

Players can download the entire Strong Bad series, which began releasing in August 2008, for 1000 Nintendo points each via the Wii Shop Channel.

SAN RAFAEL, April 9, 2009 – Telltale has announced that WiiWare™ sales of Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People, the first monthly episodic series on a console, have more than doubled since Nintendo's new storage solution was unveiled at the Game Developer's Conference in March. The Strong Bad series began releasing episodically on WiiWare in August 2008.

"Nintendo's new solution really opens the door for players to add to their collection of downloadable games, which is critical for a series with multiple installments," says Telltale CEO Dan Connors. "This is a major step forward for episodic gaming. We're looking forward to even greater success on WiiWare with Strong Bad, as well as other projects."

Like a TV series, Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People is best enjoyed when the full five episode "season" is played in its entirety. Nintendo's new option to play WiiWare games directly from high-density SD cards gives customers a convenient way to enjoy this full-season experience.

Starring Strong Bad, the self-proclaimed "coolest person ever," and the rest of the characters from the popular Homestarrunner.com website, Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People is a series of comedy games that play like interactive cartoons. Each episode features a unique storyline penned by series creators Mike and Matt Chapman and the writers of Telltale's award-winning Sam & Max series. Arcade-style mini games, achievements, and the ability to email Wii™ friends from Strong Bad's laptop complete the experience.

The Strong Bad games can be downloaded from the Wii Shop Channel for 1,000 points each. For more information on Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People on WiiWare, visit http://www.telltalegames.com/strongbad/wiiware. The series is also available for PC from Telltale's website.

With the information provided, this really isn't that big of news.

If they sold two copies before and now, suddenly, sold four copies - whoo-hooo!

It's interesting to me that they didn't any kind of useful data with this release.

TJ SpykeApril 11, 2009

The games have gotten good reviews, so I am happy. I wonder what other games have gotten sales boosts since the 4.0 update.

That is good news! Especially when you inaccurately report it.

100% increase! ONE HUNDRED PERCENT. Our sales have DOUBLED.

I'm sure it sold decently when it first came out, but I have a feeling that this doubling effect is based on the sales just prior to the update... which probably weren't great, as the game was several months old.

ShyGuyApril 11, 2009

I've played the first two. I need to get number three.

TJ SpykeApril 11, 2009

When I have the money I might get these. I want to get all 5 at once, and that is $50.

Well if they were surviving and satisfied with sales since Aug. 08 - Mar 09, then they should be ecstatic that all those sales doubles in the matter of a month.  They just did 8 months of sales in 1 month, which means they must be happy enough to EXPLICATIVE EXPLICATIVE Nintendo's EXPLICATIVE.

I think people are not seeing why this news is important.

Telltale Games claims that thanks to the new storage solution sales of the game's episodes have doubled. This tells me that while the episodes sold well they weren't selling enough because players were afraid of downloading games and running out of memory.

This means that WiiWare sales could do well overall because fans are more likely to download more games without fearing the lack of storage, which bodes well for both Nintendo and the developers.

Did they?  Because it doesn't say anything like that in the article.  For all we know, they took the sales of the month before the update  (like 7 months after the game was released) and compared them to the sales of the month after the update.

Don't get me wrong - I *know* the storage solution has helped game sales - I personally have purchased quite a bit of games since the fix was released.  I just find it odd that they didn't release any real numbers in this release...

TJ SpykeApril 11, 2009

Companies in general seem reluctant to release numbers for downloadable games, maybe because they tend to be not that high. I think Microsoft said Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned is the best selling game ever on Xbox Live Arcade and it is less than 1 million purchases. I would like to know what it's double of though, double the previous 2 weeks, double the past month, double all time, etc.

That sounds suspiciously similar to a Family Guy joke about Robot Chicken...

In any case, as Telltale Games has said they were happy with the sales of the series on WiiWare before this news this can only be a good sign of things to come on WiiWare.  Maybe GOOD developers will see the service as financially viable now and will start bringing over more World of Goo-caliber games.  I'd especially love for LucasArts to start bringing over their library of P&C Adventure Games (or, heaven forbid, make new ones), considering they're bringing Indiana Jones & The Fate of Atlantis (awesome game, by the way) over via the new Wii Indiana Jones game.

I loved that Family Guy joke (which is good since the show is very hit or miss with its jokes) because Peter has a point. You have to be wary when a company only gives percentages rather than hard numbers. If a show has 5,000 viewers (nationwide) and goes up to 20,000, that is a increase of 250% (or something like that) but is still total crap since even infomercials can do better. Same here, if a game sold 2 copies and then sold 4, it doubled its sales but still had low numbers.

You made a good point about Telltale being happy, so that may be a good sign to expect more stuff from them. Maybe companies will start releasing their classic adventure games on the Wii now (I know a lot of people would love the Monkey Island games on it, me too since I never played any of them).

StratosApril 11, 2009

Maybe this means we will see Wallace and Grommit (sp?) on the Wii after all. That would be great.

I got the first three and plan to get the rest down the line when I get more money.

This could also lead to a second season of SBCG4AP later this year, or even a release of Sam and Max Season 2 as well.

And I second that desire for getting all the old LucasArts SCUMM games on the VC or remade on WiiWare in the future. I really want DOS games on the VC.

TJ SpykeApril 11, 2009

I see no reason DOS games can't happen. The Virtual Console already has PC games in the form of Commodore 64, and also has arcade games now. If I ran a company that owned the right to games that could be on the Virtual Console, I would do everything I could to release them. You would think Midway Games would try and get as many games on the VC as soon as possible to help themselves out.

Anyways, I am hoping for Sam & Max Season 2 as well. If they make a Season 3 maybe they could release the PC and WiiWare episodes on the same day.

StratosApril 11, 2009

I still need to finish S&M Season 1.

Did TellTale ever say they planned to do more Strong Bad games?

Quote:

This statement doesn't necessarily mean there are more planned because they could just be looking forward to the current games continuing to sell well.

Mop it upApril 11, 2009

I wonder if they will compile all of the episodes and release them on a single disc. I might be inclined to buy it if they did that.

StratosApril 11, 2009

That will probably happen once sales decline on the ones currently on WiiWare. Also once the next season comes (if it comes) they could release it then to boost sales and interest.

They're 35$ for the bundle on Steam IIRC.
