Tales of Graces, the 12th main game in Namco Bandai's Tales series, is coming to Wii this year.

The latest issue of Japan's Weekly Shounen Jump magazine has announced three new titles in the Tales series of RPG, Tales of Graces for the Wii being the only one announced for Nintendo consoles. Graces is the mothership title (main line Tales game) that Namco Bandai has been hinting at for the past year.

In the game, players take control of an 18-year-old man named Aspel Rant who lives in the world of Efinea. The theme of the game is said to be about "protection" and "defense." The game will focus on exploration and have more detailed dungeon, field, and town areas.

Tales of Graces will use the new Style Shift Linear Motion Battle System in which the characters have two fighting styles to choose from. Also, players will be able to pivot around opponents like a fighting game.

The game will support both the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, and the Classic Controller Pro. It is currently unknown if the original Classic Controller will work with the game.

Tales of Graces is currently set for a winter 2009 release.

Pap64 I posted that it supports both the classic and classic pro controllers.

On that note I can't wait till the game comes out.The Tales games are instabuy for me.

I don't like where this is heading.

They introduce Free Roam in one game and apparently take it away for the next game, without addressing how you'll likely skew the camera into bad angles while playing co-op.

The game is supposedly out this year, only 30% complete (DELAY!), and no other playable characters have been introduced.

I'll just predict it doesn't get localized.

18 still has a -teen in it. Not a man yet, boy! :p

Kidding aside, I can't wait to see how the SSLMB system works.

The name is terrible, but I'm interested if it's using a new engine and has better writing than the last few Tales games.  Wii could use more good RPGs.

It is nice to know that Wii is getting the mainline game. Other than that, meh.

The action-oriented battles were the best part of Tales of Symphonia, but only because they were still fairly simple. If this game aims to make things more complex then I don't think it'll be something I'd like.

Does it really matter if a Tales game is a mothership title or not? Every one is independent of each other (something like Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World is considered a companion title). It's similar to the Final Fantasy series, something like Final Fantasy XII is no different than something like Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles since there is not one FF canon (just mini-canons like the Final Fantasy VII compilation).

Well, I suppose I'll look forward to it with something approaching optimism.  After all, it can't be any more boring or waste any more potential than Dawn of the New World was, and it's always nice to have new RPGs on the Wii.

*is completely aware that he just poked Pro with a rather large stick, or shall he say...FIST?*

Mr. T says: Don't touch my taint, sucka.

I'm sorry you've got such a stale approach to playing video games in general, pretending to appreciate options without bothering with them.  Of course, I only play un-RPGish-RPGs for their combat, with visceral co-op when possible if available if unbroken.

But your'e right, Namco's only going downhill.  Tales of Graces is only lucky to get released this year (30% complete only in April?), and it'll be even luckier to get localized, seeing their super-budget HD Tales game swiftly trounced by its 3rd rate budget spinoff cousin, whereas combined their sales still look relatively sorry compared to their predecessor.

Spring 2010 Japan.
Fall 2010 USA at the earliest if at all.
Euro -- sorry.

Thank god for third party games like Dead Rising to keep the Wii momentum going thru 2009, right?

This just in from Bill:

Bill and Infernal Monkey have forwarded me news that they're making a new Tales game exclusively for Wii.

"Tales of Fitness"

starring GERSTMANN

here's some bullet points, cuz that's what blogs do with press releases:

- first boss is a flight of stairs
- no pretty boy bishounen in this game
- only get a fat slob who reeks of onions
- there are no party members because noone wants to be near him
- sidequests include raiding buffets

``It'd be original!``

EDIT:  Bill is not available for comment.

Mo-Cap added, good.

Ok, where's the other playable characters?

Behind schedule, 2010 confirmed.

If I remember correctly ToS on Wii had motion capture so it's not an added feature ;).

MoCap was missing in the December 2008 MOTHERSHIP! trailer.

Maybe they didnt implement it then?

Which is why I remarked it was added to this latest demonstration.
