No Plans to Release the Classic Controller Pro in U.S. or Europe

It looks like the newest version of the Classic Controller is Japan-only, at least for now.

Last week Nintendo unveiled the Classic Controller Pro, an “upgraded” version of the existing Classic Controller for the Nintendo Wii. However, Nintendo representatives said nothing regarding its availability outside of Japan, where it has been slated for a summer release. Today, Gamespot received confirmation from a Nintendo of America representative that there are no known plans to release the controller in North America, and CVG received the same confirmation for Europe.

The Classic Controller Pro has a revised placement of the zL and zR buttons to the back row, similar to a Playstation DualShock controller. It also has lengthened handles, and a different placement of the wire that connects to the Wii Remote.

Welcome to the staff, Flames!  Your forum posting hasn't changed much... things just go to a different section now.  ;-)

And if NOA doesn't want to release this in the States, it's their loss.  I'll be happy to import one.

Congrats Flames.

I'm glad you're staff now Flames_of_chaos because now your posts have better spelling and grammar.  :)

I wonder why Nintendo doesn't want to release this outside of Japan? Is it because other countries tend to be less accepting of accessories as Japan?

More likely, the other regions didn't even know about the controller until the rest of us found out, so they are still scrambling to make their plans.

I know what else this means, looks like i'll never play Flames in Animal Crossing again! Oh well, congrats man!

Weird news but then again i probably never would've gotten the Pro. Hell i dont think i'll ever have the need for a second classic controller period. Still odd considering how many other wii accessories there are that they wouldnt just bother selling this one too.

Correction: That's a terrible pun.

I have no doubt it will come out here eventually, I think they just haven't decided when or Nintendo didn't bother telling their foreign branches about it. People can still import it though.

DasmosMarch 03, 2009

They can still be imported though, right?

Also yeah, congrats to Flames.

Congradulations Flames of Chaos!

As for this news.I don't mind.I only have one classic controller.Any idea on how much this costs?

This promotion is more of a formality than anything else... ;)

I wished it was wireless. I'm sure with 2009 technology, they can shrink the size of the wavebird receiver to something manageable that goes into the Wii mote slot.

Dunno about the price, but my educated guess 30 USD+import taxes?

I actually mistook him for Staff when I first joined. Congrats to you!

I'm already am hesitant to spend money on classic controllers so $30 is too much. I still need to buy two wii-motes and nunchucks plus one or more motion plus' once those arrive.  That's $120 not including any MP.

Is this thing replacing the original Classic Controller in Japan?  If it is, that would be a good sign it'll do the same elsewhere, and I can't think of any reason to sell them side by side.

vuduMarch 04, 2009

I obviously haven't used the Classic Controller Pro, but the original looks like it will be better for SNES VC games.

BlackNMild2k1March 05, 2009

Congratulations Flames. I was wondering what happen to all the news in the Nintendo section.
