Due to Shaun White's affiliation with Target, the store will be getting exclusive bonus content for Shaun White Snowboarding such as the Target Mountain and the Target Chalet.

Target revealed yesterday that Ubisoft's upcoming Wii game, Shaun White Snowboarding, will have a special edition only available at Target. This special edition will contain two exclusive new levels, the Target Mountain and the Target Chalet. The latter is the only indoor environment in the game and is based off of an actual place where Target-sponsored snowboarder Shaun White hangs out. Along with the two levels, there will also be additional characters, jibs (grinds), and scenes.

Shaun White Snowboarding will be available on Wii, November 17.

Target To Offer Special Edition Of Ubisoft®'s Shaun White Snowboarding Video Game

Exclusive Version of the Highly Anticipated Action Sports Game Hits Shelves This Winter

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Oct. 8, 2008

Snowboarding phenomenon and Target athlete Shaun White will be riding his way into Target stores this Winter with an exclusive edition of Ubisoft’s newest action sports title, Shaun White Snowboarding.

The special Target edition of the game, available on Xbox 360®, PLAYSTATION®3 and Wii™, will have exclusive extended content and features that consumers won’t be able to find anywhere else, including the Target Mountain – an entire mountain environment found only in the Target exclusive edition. Gamers will also be able to take advantage of exclusive jibs, additional scenes and more characters. Additionally, players will be able to cozy up in the game’s virtual version of the Target Chalet, the real-life mountainside home where Shaun and his fellow Target athletes hang out with friends and family at the annual Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado. Among other exclusive features, the Taget Chalet is the only indoor environment anywhere in the game.

Target guests are now able to purchase a $5 pre-sell card to ensure they’ll be shredding the mountain as soon as the exclusive version hits shelves.

"Shaun has been riding for Target for nearly seven years, so this exclusive version of Shaun White Snowboarding was a natural fit for our relationship with him," said Troy Michels, Target Lifestyle Marketing. "It's great to see the Target brand brought to life alongside Shaun in the game and we're confident that Target guests and gamers will be eager to see what has come from our collaboration in the Target edition of Shaun White Snowboarding."

Shaun White is an Olympic Gold Medalist and has 42 professional wins, including seven Winter X Games gold medals. He was also the first athlete to win gold medals in Winter and Summer X Games in unique disciplines. White has collaborated with Ubisoft's award-winning development team to create Shaun White Snowboarding. The game features open-world mountains across the globe, where players are free to define their own experiences, and express themselves through tricks, unique riding styles, and highly customizable avatars. Players can also hang out with their friends and have fun off the board by throwing snowballs, hiking to access secret spots, and filming their friends doing tricks.

"I've had a blast working with the Ubisoft developers, and we’ve created a game that’s really different from any other action sports game," said White. "I think it really captures my style, and I can't wait to see what Target guests think of the extra features we’ve made just for them."

I don't care about this game so it really doesn't matter but I certainly don't like the concept of a store-exclusive special edition.  Why?  Because we don't have Target stores in Canada.  If this became a common thing I can imagine it royaly screwing Canadians.  Targets are pretty common in the States but make this a slightly more obscure store and what do you do if your town doesn't have it?  I understand the idea is to prevent people from going to the competition but in some cases the competition gets the business merely because it's in the market and you're not.  Go to Store B instead of Store A, no problem.  Go out of town to get to the closest Store B when Store A is nearby?  Well that sucks.

I like how they use the term "Target guests".  That just sounds so utterly ridiculous. :)

This isn't exactly a new thing.  LBP has different Sack Boy costumes depending on where you purchase it from.  Pre-order bonuses have been tied to specific stores for quite some time.

The music industry has done this for ages with CDs (Best Buy gets a lot of exclusives, but I've seen them at Target, too).

Best Buy "exclusive" tracks > Target "exclusives"

In my experience Target tracks end up being acoustic versions of songs from that artists previous album.

"exlusive" tracks don't mean a damn when i buy the album wherever they have it the cheapest then download the bonus tracks later :)

Exactly my plan of attack EasyCure. I don't mind buying the CD, but I want all of those bonus tracks, and I'll do what it takes to get em.

I was unaware that this was common with CDs.  I don't think I've got a current album in years so for all I know this is common in Canada and I don't know about it.

It isn't a concept that works well in Canada though with our smaller population and less variety of store chains.  Living near Vancouver makes things pretty flexible for me but between our ten or so major cities people live out in the sticks.
