A gallery shooter for WiiWare, the sequel to a Genesis gorefest, and the Master System port of a classic Genesis title.

This week's Virtual Console and WiiWare releases bring an interesting assortment: one title on WiiWare and a couple on the Virtual Console from Sega systems.

Wild West Guns for WiiWare has players testing their skills with a revolver to see if they are the fastest gun in the West. Gameloft's title allows players to point at the screen and shoot various enemies while avoiding innocent civilians. The game, as denoted by the title, takes place in the Wild West and has the player taking part in train attacks and various gallery style settings, pushing their skills to earn rewards and medals. If the challenge of the single player mode is not enough, players will be able to involve a second player locally either to combine forces or simply determine who has the fastest gun in the house. Wild West Guns is rated T for Teen by the ESRB and is available through the Wii Shop Channel for 1,000 Wii Points.

Sonic the Hedgehog has made a reappearance on the Virtual Console this week, but in his Sega Master System form. The title is not a straight port of the Genesis version, but includes some new stages, bosses, and zones, as well as a level map. Players looking to experience the blue hedgehog in his most primitive form can grab Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Master System on the Wii Shop Channel for 500 Wii Points.

The final title this week is from Namco: Splatterhouse 2 from the Sega Genesis. The first Splatterhouse is already available on the Virtual Console and this sequel, featuring copious amounts of violence and blood, continues the beat-em-up style of the original. Gamers interested in the Mature rated title can purchase it now through the Wii Shop Channel for 800 Wii Points.

WII-KLY UPDATE: ONE WIIWARE GAME AND TWO VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAMES ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL

Aug. 4, 2008

The list of available games for Wii™ owners just keeps on growing as we add another trio of titles to the Wii™ Shop Channel. This week's lineup features Old West thrills, supernatural chills and a little blue hedgehog whose name you're sure to recognize. Thanks to Nintendo's WiiWare™ downloadable game service and the classic-filled Virtual Console™, building your own blockbuster video game library has never been easier.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

WiiWare

Wild West Guns (Gameloft, 1-2 players, Rated T for Teen—Violence, 1,000 Wii Points): Draw your revolver to see if you're the fastest gun in the West. Adjust your speed and precision as targets or enemies appear in front of you. Point and shoot to earn more points. You can aim at anything, so be sure to explore the environment for elements that will earn you more shooting points. Identify your enemies among the characters you encounter, but don't shoot at innocent citizens. Take part in an Old West-style train attack, or challenge your skills in a variety of increasingly difficult shooting challenges in other beautiful, classic and lively Western environments. As you progress through challenges, you'll earn medals and rewards, making for nonstop, addictive action. Play in a two-player multiplayer mode where you and your partner can combine points, or play against each other to find out who's the fastest gun in the West.

Virtual Console

Sonic The Hedgehog™ (Sega Master System, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Based on the original Sega Genesis version, Sonic The Hedgehog was re-created as the first Sonic game for the Sega Master System. Not just a straight port, this version includes new stages, bosses, some different zones and a level map. The most noticeable difference, however, is that the Chaos Emeralds have to be found within certain stages other than the Special Stages. Dash through six Zones (including special zones that were only available for the Sega Master System version) and face Dr. Eggman (a.k.a. Dr. Robotnik) at the end of every Zone.

SPLATTERHOUSE™ 2 (Sega Genesis, 1 player, Rated M for Mature—Blood and Gore, Violence, 800 Wii Points): SPLATTERHOUSE 2 is the sequel to SPLATTERHOUSE, released only on the Sega Genesis. A few months after escaping from the first mansion in SPLATTERHOUSE, the main character, Rick, once again encounters the Terror Mask and must use its powers to rescue his beloved Jennifer. Rick will need to punch, slash, smash and even chainsaw his way through a haunted mansion against unspeakable horrors and terrifying bosses to make it out alive.

Talkback

Wild Guns is pretty fun I enjoy it.

You get 6 levels and in each level you get 3 sub levels.

Sub levels include:

Shooting train
protecting bunnies from vultures
shooting targets
shooting balloons
Shooting in a salon
Shooting sombreros
Shooting can to remain in the air

The graphics are very clean and nice. Look similar to Twilight Princess with cartoon shading for characters. It also records your records as 'achievements' so you can see biggest string combo and such.

After you beat the 6 levels and get rewards in all of them you unlock a harder setting.

Overall a very fun arcade shooter.
A few Odd things.
1) YOU NEVER RELOAD. Nope you have infinite ammo clip
2) Indians are using guns not bow and arrow like you would expect.
3) Only one gun you can use which is a pistol
4) Can't take off cursor which I liked to do

I think its very funny all the racial stereotypes in the game. You kill them all so its not racist, but its funny to see the 'mexican militant stereotype' and 'savage native american' and you have to shoot them. You also have bad guys and cow girls too so not all the women are helpless. And for some reason they have 'mad scientist" which are dressed in purple and loaded with TNT and run at you in Suicide Bomber style.

Oh yeah the cursor is very precise and smooth in aiming, so that keeps the game fun.

Overall I say worthy of a download.

Especially if you own a Nyko Perfect shot.

The substages, except the shooting at people, are a direct copy of the phases in the Wii Play shooting game.
