The Dojo returns with some pretty big updates, including a new character!

It's the new year, and NWR is back with more weekly updates from the Dojo. Sakurai and company took a week off after the holidays, but their first week back brings a brand new character to the Brawl. Combine that with the possibility of a North American delay and Smash Bros. fanatics are going through bouts of manic depression.

A quaint little town...New Stages: More from Melee
The week started out with the return of some more classic stages. Yoshi's Island, Corneria, Onett, Brinstar, and Rainbow Ride will all be making an encore appearance. Based on screenshots and descriptions, it looks like each stage will be unchanged. This should give them all an extremely familiar feel for the Melee veterans who pick up Brawl. So far this brings the grand total of confirmed returning stages up to six, and the number of total stages up to 25.

Cruel returns!New Game Mode: Multi-Man Brawl
Continuing the week with another return feature from Melee, Multi-Man Brawl was announced on Tuesday. This is a mode where the player takes on an onslaught of computer controlled opponents. There are several different variations of this which are detailed in the screenshot at the right. Instead of the faceless beings that were fought in Melee, players will have to take on the Fighting Alloy Team. Each member is a metallic robot-like figure and some of them have a similar appearance to popular Smash Bros. characters. For example, the blog draws a comparison between Green Alloy and Kirby. Also, Red Alloy looks strikingly similar to Captain Falcon, the popular fighter of the first two games who has yet to be announced as returning. That isn't the only change for this mode. It can also be played cooperatively with another player, either locally or online.

He's ready to go!New Character: Pikmin & Olimar
As we reported earlier, Captain Olimar was announced as a playable character on Wednesday. He'll use all of his Pikmin to fight, which was explained in detail in the Friday post, but we'll get to that shortly. As an extra post for Wednesday, we got a taste of the World Map music from the Pikmin series. You can listen to it here.

You fail.New Final Smash: Snake's Grenade Launcher
In what may be the most militaristic move to grace a Smash Bros. game yet, Snake's final smash was revealed on Thursday. If he gets a smash ball, he'll jump off the top of the stage, and then come down on a ladder from a helicopter a ways in front of the action. A targeting reticle will then appear on the screen and the player can use this to aim the grenade launcher and fire. They'll get up to 12 shots as long as they can get them off in a certain amount of time. It definitely appears to be a devastating attack.

Get these things off me!New Special Moves: Pikmin & Olimar
Virtually all of Olimar's attacks center around the use of his Pikmin. He can have up to six following him at any time. If he loses one at any point, his standard special move can be used, Pikmin Pluck. He'll then simply pull a new Pikmin out of the ground. The color of the Pikmin he'll get is random, but apparently different types of floor will have different Pikmin probabilities. Once he has a stock of Pikmin at his disposal, he can make use of his other special moves. Pikmin Throw, his side move, does exactly what it says. He chucks Pikmin at a foe and they attach and attack in a similar way to the Pikmin games. Presumably, the type of Pikmin thrown will affect the type of attack. Pikmin Chain, his up special move, causes all of his available Pikmin to create a life line to hopefully help the captain recover. His down special move will simply adjust the order of the Pikmin in his queue. This is a strategic move used to gain access to the ideal type of Pikmin. Olimar looks like he's going to be the most unique fighter yet.

That's it for this week. No one knows how much longer the new blog posts will go for. With the Japanese launch only days away, expect an onslaught of information, including import coverage from us.
