Where's Ridley?

This week was filled with seven minor updates. While there was nothing spectacular, we did get an assist trophy from outside the Nintendo universe! It's been a few months since the daily updates started, and the Dojo is still going strong.

New Music: Fire Emblem Theme
The Fire Emblem theme was revealed on Monday this week. It is sung by the same chorus that performs in the now-famous Brawl theme and was apparently recorded at the same time. Instead of translating the lyrics into all of the different languages Brawl will be played in, they were recorded in Latin in order to stick to the Fire Emblem theme. The English translation was provided on the site. It is as follows.

Fire Emblem, companions walk

The endless path together.

In the wavering shadow of spite,

Our home is faced by the oncoming spear,

Engulfed in flames.

I keep that unforgettable day in my heart

And now rise up together with my companions.

Fire Emblem, our bond shall be never broken.

We hold fast to protect tomorrow

And the one who awaits our return.

Fire Emblem, light gathers on the flag we unfurl.

Fire Emblem, we gaze upon the multitude of stars,

Gripping our blades.

If we do not bring light to the darkness in these lands,

The shooting stars will soar over a wasteland.

Fire Emblem, on whom does the morning sun shine

As she climbs over the edge of battle?

To hear the song for yourself, go directly to the Dojo post.

New Movie: Fox's Misfortune
Donkey and Diddy Kong's story was continued in another video update that came on Monday. It showed Fox's Arwing crashing into a beach and Diddy going to investigate. In a surprising move, Rayquaza, the dragon Pokemon, comes out of the pond and attacks them both. Check out the minute long clip for yourself by clicking the image on the right to see how it turns out. Apparently, Rayquaza will be on the side of the villains in the Subspace Emissary adventure mode.

Stopwatch?

Returning Items
Tuesday's update showcased a few of the items that will be making a return. They are the Beam Sword, Fire Flower, Freezie, Home-Run Bat, Party Ball, and Super Mushroom. Of these, the Beam Sword is the only one to receive a significant modification. Apparently it will now be able to extend to extreme lengths, possibly making it a viable ranged weapon in a way other than as a projectile. In the screenshot that showcased the Party Ball, a stop watch-like item is revealed. If it is used in a similar way to stop watches in past Nintendo games, expect it to either stop or slow down the opponents of the player who grabs it.

Get away from me.

New Game Mechanic: Grab and Throw
It was revealed in one of Wednesday's updates that grabbing and throwing will work exactly as it did in preview Smash games. While shielding, if the attack button is pressed you will attempt a grab. If another player is close by, a grapple will be initiated. You can then tap the control stick in a direction to toss your opponent. This tactic can be used to initiate combo attacks.

Cut!

New Assist Trophy: Gray Fox
In what is probably the most surprising announcment of the week, it was confirmed on Wednesday that Assist Trophies will not be limited to first party games. Gray Fox, from the Metal Gear universe, may pop out of a little trophy case. He uses stealth to approach an opponent, and then starts slicing away. Unlike some of the other sword wielding assist trophies, Gray Fox will also be able to reflect projectiles as he swings. That should definitely have a surprising effect in some battles.

PK Fire!

New Special Moves: Lucas
All of Lucas's special attacks and and some of his smash attacks were revealed on Thursday. It's becoming apparent that he is a replacement for Ness, as some of his moves are very similar. Both his up and down smash will use some of his special abilities to deal a lot of damage. His back air attack will be a kick that, when used at the right time, can be a meteor smash. Thanks to his rope snake, Lucas will also be another character that can use his grapple to grab ledges and recover.

As for his special attacks, his up and down attacks are direct rips from Ness's moveset. For those that don't know, down will initiate a PSI Magnet that absorbs projectiles and replenishes Lucas's health. The up special will perform a PK Thunder that the player can steer after it has been released. If it is brought back to Lucas, it can propel him back to the ledge to recover from attempted knock outs. If other players are in the way of his kamikaze blast, they will receive a large amount of damage. The side special move, PK Fire, is slightly different than Ness's classic PK Fire attack. The basic premise is the same, a lightning bolt flies out that erupts into a pillar of fire. How the pillar forms is slightly different though. The standard special move controls just like Ness's, in that the player can charge and control it. Lucas's is called PK freeze though, and it will actually lock targets in a block of ice just like the Freezie item.

Fire Everywhere

New Stage: Norfair
Norfair was revealed as a stage at all the gaming events of last month. It got its official Dojo update on Friday. Lava will rise from the bottom as well as fall from the top. Obviously, touching this lava will cause damage. There is also a platform that is enclosed by blue Metroid-style doors. Some lava waves will be so unavoidable that you have to get inside that room in order to stay safe. One strange thing about the level is that Norfair is Ridley's domain, yet he doesn't seem to make an appearance. Does this mean he'll be showing up in the game in another form?

That's it for this week. We had two days of double updates, which seems to point to the fact that Nintendo isn't too worried about running out of content between now and the end of January. Hopefully there are still some big surprises left to hold us over for the next two and a half months.

1) Lava also can come from the side...
2) You make it seem as if the blast doors are always there, but they appear when the giant lava wave appears in the background...
