King Dedede Joins SSB Brawl

Also: save replays and send them to online friends.

A third character from the Kirby series has been confirmed as playable in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, as King Dedede has now been revealed. He joins Meta Knight and Kirby himself in the expanding roster. Dedede was originally Kirby's arch-nemesis, although he has become more of a neutral character in some recent games. Smash Bros. Dojo indicates that Dedede is a heavy character (like Bowser or Donkey Kong), and his huge wooden hammer has some mechanical properties, although those have yet to be shown.

Hidden in a previous update this week is an unceremonious announcement that Brawl will include a replay feature. You can save up to three minutes of footage from a battle (or Target Smash) and send it over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to people on your friends list. Currently, it is not clear whether three minutes is the limit per replay file or the total amount allowed in the game. Video replays have been common in PC games in recent years and are now creeping into console games, including Halo 3. In addition to bragging rights, replays are sometimes used as study materials by serious tournament players.

The replay feature sounds pretty cool. I read a recent article about how to use game replays to make stereoscopic 3D images. I'd love to see a homemade 3D movie of a brawl!

Jiminy Christmas. I think we have a new record for "Most Ridiculously Oversized Avatar."

Well. That's fun. But he won't play like the Ice Climbers. Dedededededede already is unique, he already has attacks, and he already has some special attributes that the Ice Climbers do not connect with. For instance, he can float similarly to Kirby, he eats a lot of food, and several of his attacks are based on body slams. He does have a hammer charge attack that isn't similar to the Climbers, too. Don't look for similarities between the two characters, because other than wielding a hammer, those aren't there. It's like comparing a Fire Emblem character to Link, which doesn't work well.

God, I hope not. If the best thing he can throw at me is a star when he trips he's in for a world of pain.

Post deleted because it was bothering me.

As for Dedede, meh.

I am glad that this game seems to be including a lot of the elements that make Halo 3 good, like online co-op and saved film clips/screenshots.

Because none of those things were done previously. face-icon-small-wink.gif

I'm sure they were done before, but Halo 3 is the first console game I am aware of that integrates all these features so seamlessly, or at all. And the game has certainly been well received, which is why I like the fact that Nintendo is trying to incorporate some of it's better features, whether directly influenced or not.
