The popular anime-based fighting game jumps to Nintendo's next-gen platform.

In the latest issue of Nintendo Power, it's confirmed that D3Publisher of America is going to release Naruto: Clash of Ninja 3, although it won't be on GameCube. Instead, it'll be debuted on Wii. Although it isn't directly mentioned that it will be a port of the next Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen (as was the case with CoN 1 and 2), the developer of those titles, Eighting, is mentioned.

While the aforementioned is speculative, we do know that it will feature as least some new content, as Wii-based minigames are discussed. Fans will also be happy to know that Itachi, one of the show's most popular characters, is scheduled to be playable.

Stay tuned to NWR as more info on this game is released.

So it's not really Clash of Ninja 3? It's the 5th one being released as 3? I guess we won't be getting the real 3 and 4.

CalibanFebruary 27, 2007

No, it's 3 with a little bit more of content specific for Wii. Shippuden(sp?) hasn't even started in North-America, lol, I guess that in 2 years worth we will see CoN 5 which was just released in Japan.

TJ SpykeFebruary 27, 2007

I hope you are right. It took 3 years to bring the first CON game here, and I want them to bring all 4 GC versions here (even if 3 and 4 are ported to the Wii instead of GC).

NWR_pap64Pedro Hernandez, Contributing WriterFebruary 27, 2007

Forced waggle, FTW!!!

(Note, I don't mind Wii controls on older games, but you know SOMEONE will come here and say it).

BloodworthDaniel Bloodworth, Staff AlumnusFebruary 27, 2007

Yeah, Karl and I were going over the article trying to figure it out. In some ways it sounds like Clash of Ninja 3, but then other things don't exactly line up. We know it's not EX though because that has all Shippuuden characters. So, the best explanation is still some kind of enhanced CON 3.

NephilimFebruary 27, 2007

Sounds like 3, just with mini games added which use wiimote
maybe they will port the EX mini games to 3?

nickmitchFebruary 27, 2007

Has Itachi actually been in the American show? I know he's been mentioned, but that's it. I hate the American version of Naruto, so I don't watch it too often.

that Baby guyFebruary 27, 2007

Though I haven't played any of them, I just figured they would just give CoN 3 the same controls they gave Shippuuden. Seems to me like that would be the best method, especially since all of the Shippuuden controls have been built. I thought the games played similarly, so it wouldn't be all that hard.

I know absolutely nothing about Naruto, but GNT 3 and 4 have been so highly praised on this site that I can't help but be excited for them to come out -- the Wii features are a nice little bonus for having to wait a few years. Ty actually thinks GNT 4 is better than SSB Melee...I have to at least try it out! Even though Ty liked Final Fight Streetwise.

Oh ho, gloves are off now, this should be good...

KDR_11kFebruary 27, 2007

I already figured this would happen. The Wii is pretty close to the GC in terms of hardware and the GC wouldn't live long enough for GNT 3 and 4. Only remaining question is how it will control, does it use the remote or the classic and GC controllers?

Could also be a backport of EX's game engine to GNT3's cast and story.

Athrun ZalaFebruary 28, 2007

wasn't Itachi on GNT3 already?

KDR_11kFebruary 28, 2007

Yep. IIRC you have to beat all extra missions and pay 100k for him but he is playable.

Jan-SuMarch 03, 2007

Nooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How could they do this!!!??? It's already bad enough that it took three years for the first and second ones to get here in English for GameCube, but why, oh why, do they have to make it solely for the Wii!!!???

I have CON and CON2, and wanted to collect all four of them for the 'Cube, and I actually don't really mind if they release it for the Wii, as long as they also have a GameCube version, like they did with Zelda: Twilight Princess. But probably many fans, especially those who are still only GameCube owners, are going to be so dissappointed if it'll only be for the Wii. . They just ruined the whole series! I've been waiting for even a preliminary release date for months, (and I could've used valuable experience from CON 3 {I lost in a Naruto video game tournament to someone playing as Choji, who only first appears in 3}), then all of a sudden they give us this b.s.

If I had some way of contacting them, I'd give the folks at Eighting, Tomy, and D3 Publisher a piece of my mind!

KDR_11kMarch 03, 2007

Stores here have stopped stocking GC games, releasing a GC game now would be a waste of money since no stores would stock it.

I mean, hell, how many people have a GC, interest in the GNT games and no plans to buy a Wii? Three? Four?

Jan-SuMarch 03, 2007

... ... ... What do you mean? From what I've seen, of course stores here must still stock some some GC games. I don't think the 'Cube is that old yet, or at least, shouldn't be considered that old already. For a comparison, I know they must've stopped making N64 games by now, but 'Cube games are, or should still be, on. In my opinion, they might even make more money if they release it for both systems. I don't suppose I'm the only 'Cube owner who doesn't plan on getting a Wii anytime soon.

BloodworthDaniel Bloodworth, Staff AlumnusMarch 03, 2007

I don't get it. If you are really that hungry for this game, then get yourself an Action Replay and buy it in Japanese. I think I got it like two years ago.

I do hope that the Wii version retains a GC controller option. These games are so good, and I'd hate to see their reception ruined by poorly implemented Wii controls.

Jan-SuMarch 03, 2007

Yeah, that's exactly one of my points. I totally agree with you, Bloodworth. GNT3 is the only one in the series I haven't seen in abundance, but I've played GNT4 quite a few times by now, and even just judging by the controls, the series, at least the first four of them, are really meant for the GameCube.

I "pray" for those at Eighting, Tomy, and D3 Publisher; they know not what they are doing. And perhaps Cartoon Network and Toonami are to blame as well. I think it's taking way too long to see all of these new episodes just once each week.

Then again, it's still early on, and these could just be the preliminary reports. You shouldn't believe everything you read or hear. I'll await for more information. Otherwise, if it's confirmed that it'll only be for the Wii, then f it. I'm finding a Freeloader, and skipping ahead to GNT4.

PaleMike Gamin, Contributing EditorMarch 03, 2007

Jan, even at E3 last year D3 said they didn't plan to bring 3 and 4 out for GameCube because the system was dying, so I would stop holding your breath for a release. About the only thing I could see changing D3s mind is if someone sets a precedent for releasing GameCube games again due to Wii's backwards compatibility, and that one shooter that is coming out doesn't count... It'd have to be something on the scale of Nintendo re-releasing a bunch of greatest hits titles in new boxes or something.

KDR_11kMarch 03, 2007

Stop blaming Eighting, I doubt they're even involved in the port. Also they need to make a Kurukuru Kururin game for a console with an analog stick that's as difficult as the GBA KK instead of using wide open spaces and silly weapons like Kururin Squash.

I think the CON3 will retain GC control as the brand new GNT EX (5) has both Wii remote and GC control options.

Jan-SuMarch 04, 2007

Pale, is there an article somewhere about E3's statement? And blackfootsteps, are you certain that it will have at least a GC controller option? It can be easy to say anything here, but I can not and will not believe anything unless I have the actual proof, or official word as we draw nearer to its release.

*sighs and shakes his head in disgust* They think they're being so innovative for the English versions now by putting it on the Wii and adding Wii remote mini-games. If they're not making still a GC version, in my views, they're making a big mistake.

PaleMike Gamin, Contributing EditorMarch 04, 2007

No article Jan, but I asked D3 myself. Granted these were PR people, but they seemed to have been told what to say when that question was asked.

Oh, this just in to the Nintendo World Report newsdesk: Proof that there won't be a GameCube version!!

Proof:
Wii: HOT
GameCube: DEAD

Oh hey, here's some more proof!!

More proof:
Wii: PRINTS MONEY
GameCube: DEAD

Case closed.

QFGT!

Preach it, Windyman!

Wii: HOT

Yeah, I've heard of cases where the Wii got so hot it damaged its case. That standby mode is nasty.

Yeah, like mercenaries. Doing simply what they're told, not asking more about what it is or if it's right or wrong.

Still, it's just not fair to the original Japanese series, and to those who don't have a Wii (at least, not yet). Money doesn't grow on trees, you know, and the Wii will probably still be more than $200 even by the end of this year.

As of now, only time can truly tell, though it does look like there might only be a Wii version, which is sad. Maybe trying to get a Wii isn't such a bad idea.

Speaking of money, can the Wii really print out its own? I thought something like that would have to be illegal.

Jan-SuMarch 04, 2007

Oops. Unless you mean it makes more money. Than that's different.

KDR_11kMarch 04, 2007

You missed the meme, eh? When the DS started being successful people started posting a GIF of dollar bills coming out of the DS with Iwata and Miyamoto shouting "it prints money!!".

Jan-SuMarch 05, 2007

Ever since CON came out, I decided I wanted to collect all of the Naruto: Clash of Ninja series. Now, even if 3 and 4 are only going to the Wii, I will still keep to that goal.

Besides, I heard of something that will be free to download now. But after June 2007, it will cost 500 Wii points.
