PGC Turns Seven Years Old

Seven? Are you kidding? That's about 120 in Internet-years!

Update: A little birdie told me that we actually started on March 7th, not the 6th...oops. So this article is getting post-dated. So much for quality control! ;-) Or maybe we're just becoming forgetful in our old age.

Planet GameCube began its tumultuous life as N2000HQ on March 7, 1999. That's seven years ago, today. As the oldest existing GameCube-centric website, PGC is so old that it existed two months before "Project Dolphin" was announced as the GameCube's codename. We've survived the dot-com bubble, hackers, and skeptical game publishers.

Today, Planet GameCube looks much the same as it has for years, but things have changed. The site is running on a lean and powerful new database to give you easier access to our huge archive of information. We have hired a large staff of amazing volunteers who bring you all the latest Nintendo news and reviews, every day. We have developed some of the tightest quality control and editing standards in the gaming press. And we have built up the finest group of Nintendo fans in the world...in fact, our readers span the entire world!

We have big plans for PGC in 2006, to go along with Nintendo's new console and the advent of online gaming with the DS. Stay tuned, because it's getting better all the time.

As in years past, we invite you to participate in the site's birthday celebration with a huge new contest -- details will be coming soon, so look out!

YA-HA! PGC Birthday Get!

ZachMarch 06, 2006

Hey, I get to be the first reply. I just wanna say congrats to PGC, and all of the great people who work for it. I have been coming here for a long time (I was an IGN refugee) and ever since I discovered the planet, it has been my favorite place for nintendo news, and forums. Congrats for the 7 years, and may PGC last untill armaggeddon finally puts nintendo out of business.

Edit: Damn!!! Caliban beat me to it.

Karl Castaneda #2March 06, 2006

Technically neither of you are first since I commented in the actual news article way before either of you.

Bow down, suckas.

Congrats! Now where's the strippers? Wait... should there be strippers at a 7 year old's b-day party?

From what I hear, Macaulay Culkin had them at his 7th. Why not PGC?

ZachMarch 06, 2006

well, as the article says, its 120 in internet years, so the strippers might give PGC a heart attack!

CalibanMarch 06, 2006

What we need is a REV stripper, that would please me alot!

PS: Don't really care who posted first.

ZachMarch 06, 2006

Hey, maybe thats what the holes in the back of the rev are for!!!

Seven years. Seven years ago I was trying to find a date to the prom. Considering that PGC has only been a part of my adult life it's really crazy to imagine it being that old. Actually it's really crazy to imagine myself being that old.

Happy birthday, PGC!

Oh and before someone gets in a snide comment I did find a prom date. face-icon-small-wink.gif

Bill AurionMarch 06, 2006

How about the snide comment about you being an old fogey? face-icon-small-wink.gif

Happy Birthday, PGC!

Karl Castaneda #2March 06, 2006

Don't worry, Ian; take comfort in knowing that people who write for PGC are much, much younger than you.

Happy 7th BDAY PGC. It's as if I was saying this to an actual child, a child which at about the age of 3, caught my eye. I sorta liked this child, so I started looking at it. I continued to look at that child until it was about 5 then I started talking to the wonderful child. At first I wasn't really sure how to talk to it, but I slowly got more confidence into showing myself to the child. But now, I feel I have fully exposed my self to the child.

Happy 7th Birthday, kiddo!

RennyMarch 06, 2006

Happy B-day all ya'll at PGC. This is the best Nintendo site and community by a country mile. I hope you guys keep it up through the Rev and beyond. I'll toast a glass of this craptacular Beaujolais in your honor.

Yeah, so you were, what, ten when the site first started out? Scary how fast time flies when something is put into perspective like that, and, like Ian, it makes me feel a lot older than I am... Anyway, congrats PGC.

animecyberratMarch 06, 2006

Happy birthday, PGC! Here's to many more years under the internet sun.

Cheers!

WuTangTurtleMarch 06, 2006

been on here since sometime in 2001 and i still think it is the best community online. We got the ever so loved and hated lan and the super sarcastic Mario to make everyone here talk smack, etc. It's always fun just to see what some have to say.

Happy Bday PGC, ah and my sister's bday was today too!

What about GDC, Berto2K. Anyway, I've been here at PGC for a large portion of that time, and I've seen a lot of staffers come and go. It has been an outlet for me to write my opinions on games, host crazy trivia games and meet new friends. Heck, I'm even the freaking technical lead of the site, now--who would have thought I'd be filling Rick and Justin's shoes? If that can happen, I suppose anything is possible.

RobageejamminMarch 06, 2006

PGC is unstoppable. This site has been my homepage since the day I heard about it, and that was a very long time ago. grats guys for keeping the spirit alive for 7 frickin years! Happy Birthday!

DjunknownMarch 06, 2006

7 years. Now that's some staying power here in the interweb. Thanks for still keeping it strong and keeping it right all this time. Can't wait for the surprises that will come in near future.

cheers beer.gif

j/k, we'll make an exception for you face-icon-small-happy.gif

Oh and HAPPY BIRTHDAY PGC!!!

BigJimMarch 06, 2006

In honor of your Birthday, a tree has been planted in Israel.

Actually just last night I was reading a bunch of the editorials from 2001-2003. Things were so exciting in GameCube land at that time. Anticipation, expectation, people recounting their memories of when the N64 came out. It'd be nice to see some more of that to get the mood going. face-icon-small-wink.gif Maybe after E3.

wanderingMarch 06, 2006

Happy birthday PGC!

Here's to another 7 years.

IceColdMarch 06, 2006

Of bad luck, that is..

MysticGohanMarch 06, 2006

Happy Friggin Birthday PGC, Ah I knew ye well. Quite sometime actually, and as I fellow IGN Refugee, but I was a frequent visitor even before that.

ToruresuMarch 07, 2006

Wow. 7 years already? Wow. I've been a reader since the 'Dolphin' was announced, forum member like 2 years later. Thanks to everyone at PGC for everything they've done for us, Nintendo fans.

Thank you and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

P.S. I too miss Rick and his comments on the forum.

Rick has school and a job and is pretty much retired from PGC. But if you see him, tell him we do need his help on a couple of things!

Ian SaneMarch 07, 2006

"Don't worry, Ian; take comfort in knowing that people who write for PGC are much, much younger than you."

Hell that was the norm when I first found the site and I was only like 18 at the time so that's old hat.

Karl doesn't have an Super Nintendo. He doesn't deserve to be a staff member.

Happy Berfday, PGC.

Karl Castaneda #2March 07, 2006

My Super Nintendo is in heaven with Jimi Hendrix and that guy who told you not to squeeze the Charmin.
