The Movies Not Coming to Consoles

You can still find it on PC, though.

Peter Molyneux's Hollywood simulator, The Movies, was originally announced as a multiplatform release even though it was clearly designed as a PC game. Since Activision was publishing it, "multiplatform" included GameCube, although it would be missing the extensive online features of other versions.

However, a GameCube version was never shown at E3, and along with the other console versions, it may never have been started. Activision's stance throughout 2005 was that they were concentrating on the PC version first. That version was finally released last fall, to good reviews and poor sales.

According to GameSpot, the game's poor performance on PC sealed the fate of the unseen console versions. Activision confirmed in yesterday's financial report that the console adaptations have been canceled.

Allowing poor PC sales to prevent a console release may be a bad idea: as I understand it the PC market is not very strong right now. I was really interested when this was a possible GameCube game, but I simply don't like playing games on my PC. Though I have to admit it's a better fit for PC.

I have the PC game, and while I haven't gotten around to making some big original movies myself yet (I was focussing on the studio sim part), my brother has. Very cool stuff.

I was always concerned, though, that most GCN Memory Cards wouldn't be able to store large movies, and I'm sure that on the PC it's much easier to share them. After spending hours on an original work, I wouldn't want to find that I can't save it or share it.

there were alot of problems with movies
1.it Kept being pushing it back
2.they rushed and released it without promoting it with a Demo, demo only came out last week...
3.the german version leaked before release
and on and on

It be truthful, why would people want a version with things removed?
just look at sims for consoles ewwww

According to IGN, the console versions have not been canned, it's just Activision have decided against publishing them. Lionhead have said they will now look for a publisher for the console versions.

To be fair, this is the kind of game that can only really work on PC. Consoles have their strengths, but storage space isn't one of them (even an X-Box version would run into space issues eventually, that hard drive just isn't enough if you're storing movies).

How much work has been done? If it's already mostly done then maybe Nintendo should offer to publish the Cube version. There aren't many Cube games coming out and I think it would look good for Nintendo to show that they care about that problem and are making some effort to address it. Or since this a PC game and is thus mouse related why not try to get it ported to the Rev? That would add a unique title to the launch and would establish PC type games on the Rev early on.
