Laruent Fischer will be filling in the role formerly held by Jim Merrick.

When Jim Merrick announced that he'd be coming back to Nintendo of America from its European counterpart (before leaving the company altogether), Nintendo didn't say who'd be taking over for the marketing maestro. According to 1Up, Laurent Fischer is up for the job.

Formerly the marketing director for France, he had this to say:

"Nintendo is moving into a very exciting and innovative time as we expand the definition of gaming and broaden the population of video games players. I am looking forward to the new challenge of working for Nintendo at a European level in this particularly significant period."

PGC would like to congratulate Mr. Fischer on his promotion and wishes him all the best.

He better be as open and loose-mouthed as Merrick was!

Not if he wants to keep his job!

Did Reggie kill Merrick for his insolence?

What excites me is that he commented on expanding the gamer population. I like that everyone at Nintendo is on the same page there - I was worried it was the plan from Japan and nobody in North America or Europe was taking it seriously. I think it's an exciting scheme.

Merrick was killed for releasing one of Nintendo's biggest secrets.

Nobody believes me, nor cares, but he let slip that Zelda will use NGC controls throughout the entire game (but still remain a GC game with GC controls).

KDR_11kFebruary 02, 2006

Requiem: Uh, do you mean Rev controls? Because otherwise that makes little sense.

There was a big rumor floating around during the end of December about this. It originated from a Dutch gamer mag. Here's a big thread in the Revolution forum. Rumour come True? Zelda: TP Forward Compatible?
