FOUR titles in one generation? For shame, Ubisoft, for shame...guess they just had to make a new once since Burnout Revenge came out...

I remember when Splinter Cell was an exciting new franchise and when the first sequel was annouced I paid a lot of attention to it. Now I don't care. Nothing makes a series lose it's appeal faster than annual sequels. Splinter Cell is now as interesting as Tony Hawk, Tomb Raider or Crash Bandicoot. No one is going to care about it next gen.

Typically you get two games a generation. Any more than that and it burns out too fast. Sometimes you can get away with three but it's really beneficial to leave your fanbase wanting more. By the time Splinter Cell comes out for the next gen the fans are going to be bored of it.

I wonder if GTA 4 will attract a fanbase?

UncleBobRichard Cook, Guest ContributorDecember 15, 2005

But hey, here's a third party that's not ignoring the GCN! Let's take our wins where we can, kay?

    ThePermDecember 15, 2005

its a later-enough game that maybe it will have revolution features...like online play.

Maybe Ubi-Shanghai will give us another "unique" version and crap-out another PS2 port minus effort! Keep up the "support"!

    Professional FTW

They should just start adding the year to the end of each game, ala Madden. Splinter Cell 06, with new animation! All your favorite characters are back! Also features music from Sum 41!

    BWUAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA

"Sorry, we can't buy pre-played Splinter Cell games more than 11 months old. Store policy. But you can trade in 4 Xbox360 games for $5 off towards a purchase of a Game Boy Micro!... where are you going?..."

    dack25December 15, 2005

I use to like SC when the first one came out. Then when Pandora Tommorow came out I was split because I wasn't sure if I was going to get the PS2 or GCN version (even though I don't have broadband) and I got the PS2 version. The game froze up and it was a horrible port. Then there were reviews for the next game (Chaos Thoery) and it looked like they only spent time on the Xbox version (at least EA spends some time to make better ports). So this next version is probably only going to look or play good on the 360 or PC I'm sure.

If we count ports, handhelds, and announced games, that four jumps up to....twenty-nine! Impressive franchise whoring!

    odifiendDecember 15, 2005

You guys have to remember that since Xbox360 is technically next gen, it isn't really 4 SC games in one generation.

    NinGurl69 *hugglesDecember 15, 2005

Tell that to the Xbox, PS2, and GameCube versions.

    animecyberratDecember 15, 2005

Well to be honest I never even layed a Splinter Cerll game before but I watched his Icons on G4 and am now more curious about the game.

BTW Professional 666 I sent you an email and you never relied just wanted to ask if it was intentional or if my email got lost thanks.

    ShyGuyDecember 15, 2005

Ubi still has a long way to go to match capcom with its Mega man and Street Fighter plethora s

    firecrackerdorkDecember 15, 2005

4 of a series in one gen is fine. every splinter cell is great and worth buying (except the first one cuz no online play). i love u sam fisher

    PaLaDiNDecember 15, 2005

See I'd have to disagree there. The only one worth buying is the third one. If you have the third one, no need to buy the others.

I agree with the Madden analogy. I'd imagine the only Madden worth buying is the latest one (if you like Madden, which I don't).

    King of TwitchDecember 15, 2005

hahaha, an Icons episode about a 4-year old game. Are modern gamers and journalists like 3? I suppose it'll be nominated for a star on the videogame Walk of Fame pretty soon.

    RennyDecember 16, 2005

It's a very Xbox-friendly channel, isn't it? In related news, that infuriatingly pathetic surrogate of a games news show G4TV.com has finally been canned. (If you think it's all one big love-in at that site, there were plenty of criticizing comments as well, till they were removed of course. Seems Tina takes exception to being called a cun-.....)
