That's one million less than two million but one million more than the PSP.

According to Nintendo of Europe, Nintendo DS sales have reached one million in Europe. The DS launched on the 11th March 2005 in the region, and it sold 500,000 units in its first three weeks alone.

Jim Merrick, Senior Director, European Marketing, Nintendo of Europe had this to say:

"The European launch of Nintendo DS has been a massive success with sales shattering all previous records in the opening weekend and remaining consistently strong. This product reflects Nintendo’s dedication to innovation and the advancement of gaming, providing novel and exciting new ways to play games. European consumers have adopted Nintendo’s sense of fun and innovation to give fantastic support to the Nintendo DS."

Worldwide sales are now over five million.

How many PSP's have been sold worldwide, 3 or 4? Or was it 8? I dunno...........

ArtimusJune 28, 2005

No more than 3.

RABicleJune 28, 2005

These figures wouldn't include "Biggest Console Launch in History" Australia would they? I hope DS cracks a million here soon.

NephilimJune 28, 2005

lets hope they continue to sell or surge in the future

Many thanks to Lasse Pallesen for coming up with that great line, "one million less than two million, but one million more than PSP", it gave me a chuckle. I'm really glad to see the DS doing so well!

Yeah, it is good to see it doing well.

The sales have slumped off for the DS, but the same goes for the PSP. Frankly, there's just no reason to buy a DS for many until the truly killer apps hit home, as the GBA is still an excellent gaming machine for them, I'd wager.

When MK and AC come rolling out with their online program, I'd expect that to boost sales dramatically, as well as Hunters.

Until then, Meteos is the rock and walls, if you catch my meaning...

KDR_11kJune 28, 2005

Meteos? That's scheduled for September.

Smash_BrotherJune 28, 2005

I meant the US release.

But my friend had an application which would wirelessly broadcast the E3 demos for the DS, one of which was Meteos, which is why I know how good it is already.

Meteos is sick. Sick I tell you, sick. I gotta get Kirby Canvas Curse too, which is the other reason to own a DS.

its good to see nintendo kick ass again.

"killer apps hit home, as the GBA is still an excellent gaming machine for them, I'd wager."

did the gba have a killer app?

KDR_11kJune 28, 2005

Smash_Brother: Aye but this topic is about the european sales.

Stevey: Hm.... Pokemon?

MarioJune 28, 2005

Mario Kart: Super Circuit.

Smash_BrotherJune 29, 2005

Pokemon, Mario and Luigi, Fire Emblem, FF 1&2...I'm sure there are plenty I'm forgetting as well.

As for the discussion, I played Meteos using the E3 demo which you can get off the web, so it's fully possible that anyone here could do the same thing, but I should also note that people here come from around the globe so I'm sure you have dozens of PGC forumers who have the game, either through import or otherwise.

In any case, the only point I'm trying to make is that the game is excellent. Get your hands on it whenever you can. face-icon-small-smile.gif
