"SEGA and Treasure are giving fans the sequel they've always wanted, right in time for the 10th Anniversary of the original Gunstar Heroes."

Wasn't the 10th anniversary two years ago. Not exactly "right in time". face-icon-small-wink.gif

The first game is sheer awesome. It's one of those games that doesn't age.

However I've been reading some previews and there are two major omissions from the original that I'm not super keen on.

1. No weapon mixing. That feature is one of the main elements of Gunstar Heroes that makes it unique. Instead they're going with something that sounds more like the Contra 3 system (which in itself is quite cool) where you can switch between multiple weapons. The original suceeds largely because it's just so well made so removing an innovative element shouldn't kill it but it's an odd omission nonetheless.

2. No co-op multiplayer. This is somewhat expected because it's on the GBA but it's automatically a big turnoff. I don't even think of a game like Gunstar Heroes as being single player. It's the type of game I NEVER play by myself. It's like WRONG to play it that way. Now I don't have to buy two copies which is good I guess but the lack of the feature is really going to limit the game. This is what I don't like about the focus on 3D gaming. This game is going to be limited entirely because of a stupid notion that 2D is only acceptable on portables. This should be on a console with co-op multiplayer and with the most awesome 2D effects possible.

I'll probably still get it unless there's some huge outcry from Gunstar Heroes fans not to. I won't trust reviews since most reviewers don't understand what people look for in a game like this (it's too short, it's too hard, not enough story). Still the lack of multiplayer is really going to hurt.

I hope to GOD the original is in there somewhere....unlockable or immediately available.....in all of it's 16-bit, 2-player glory!

Lack of multiplayer doesn't do jack s*** to affect the pure awesomeness this game will bestow on gamers everywhere!

Mr. SegaliMay 10, 2005

The game will still be awesome... but the original was so much more fun to play along with a buddy.
