Nintendo has announced four more colors for Japan.

Nintendo recently updated their Japanese Nintendo DS page with a set of four new colors set to be released in the coming months. Graphite Black and Pure White colored systems will launch on March 24th. Turquoise Blue and Candy Pink systems will launch April 21st. Nintendo of America has not yet made a similar announcement for the US.

The blue and white ones look spiffy.

I should also note that April 21st is the release date for Nintendogs. Is Nintendo trying to snag more of that female market with the pink DS?

Don'tHate742March 02, 2005

They should of released a jungle green one. Or an orange one, but ohwell the white one will do.

FFVII_Cloud StrifeMarch 02, 2005

I think the original looks the best. Either way sales will increase a lot with new colors

Bill AurionMarch 02, 2005

I really like the white one, but I'll wait for my Triforce DS...

Spak-SpangMarch 02, 2005

The White DS I think is the best color, and I kinda wish I didn't already have the silver one, so I can get the white.

The Black is also very nice looking.

The Blue and Pink add some nice color, and I am sure they will appeal to some.

Overall, great color selection so far. It really helps that there are more nuetral colors to choose from as well as the bright ones.

Don'tHate742March 02, 2005

I wonder why the blue looks aqua. Is that the picture or is that for real? Damn it nintendo, you can't get the color blue RIGHT?! Reminds me of the cube!

Also the black one should of had a silver lining to it (so sexy) or a dash of red.

I think that an ice color would have been better than blue, like with the GBA.

Haha keep wishing Bill.

NephilimMarch 02, 2005

white looks awsome
gosh if only that was the release colour

*Edit
not that it matter, since iv got my silver one

FamicomMarch 02, 2005

My GBC was the aqua blue kind. I kinda miss it. face-icon-small-sad.gif And now I just noticed why the white looks so good: the D-pad and buttons are white too.

couchmonkeyMarch 02, 2005

I'm totally importing a pink DS! I hope NOA announces some new colours before I buy a DS.

Sorry, it actually did say Turquoise Blue on the site. I edited in the official names: Graphite Black, Pure White, Turquoise Blue, and Candy Pink.

There's the Triforce GBASP, so it's not as unlikely as you think... ^_^

pyrokamileonMarch 02, 2005

me? I think I'll go with white, I've had a thing for white recently, I mean, I've already got a white GBA :-P. the only thing I don't get is why Nintendo releases different colors along the way? I mean why not just sell the system at launch with different colors? I don't have a DS, I haven't been able to get one yet. but had I already owned one and then heard of these new colors I would have been out of luck because there would be no point in buying another system, I'm not collecting them or anything, I just wanna play with a good color. pink isn't really my thing, so that's the only color that I'm not really interested in, but blacks cool, whites cool, even silver is cool. but now that I have a choice in the matter (hoping that I'll have a choice in the matter, hoping that NOA does the same thing!), I'll opt for the white. this just sux for all those people who didn't have a choice...

Well, it's logistically more difficult to have extra colors from the start. Once production gets going smoothly, you can add in extra things like that without as much hassle.

Ian SaneMarch 02, 2005

It's only a matter of time before we start seeing new design every month. The tribal DS isn't far behind. face-icon-small-smile.gif

Still it's good to have multiple colours for a portable. I just wish Nintendo didn't wait until later to release the really good colours. These are okay but you just know that their are much cooler designs to come as well as special editions based on franchises and later two colour models with the top and bottom half being different. I understand why they don't immediately start with multiple colours but it would be nice if when they debuted the colours they debuted the "good" colours right away. I don't know why Nintendo always gives late adopters better stuff. I wish they would make the launch colour the best colour and make it limited edition to give the early adopters a little bonus.

I'm waiting for some forest green colour or maybe gold.

kennyb27March 02, 2005

Ian, I normally either agree with you, or see your point. However, this time I have to say something.

You said that you don't understand why Nintendo doesn't immediatly start with the "good" colours. Now, everyone said this with the GCN (with the purple and black Cubes). So with the DS Nintendo launched the more popular Platinum system. So you jump on them about that now. And like Bloodworth said, it's much easier to have just one colour at launch that way you don't have hardware shortages (which I like to think are a little more important than the colour choices).

With all that said, I do think you have a point about giving the people who buy the systems early a limited edition something.

Hostile CreationMarch 02, 2005

If I didn't already have a DS with a custom skin I'd so buy a pink one.

I'll still post pics, eventually face-icon-small-tongue.gif

I'm not talking about the platinum colour. I thought that was a great launch colour. I'm talking about these new colours. They're kind of meh. I know there are some really good colours on the way. So I wish that instead of releasing these dull colours and then later releasing better ones they released the enivitable crimson red, forest green, gold, etc colours now. Let the early adopters get the cool colours instead of rewarding the casuals.

Don'tHate742March 02, 2005

If I were Nintendo, I would launch a program about 6 months after the initial release. The program would include a shipping of 2 new colors every 2 months for a year. Towards the end of that fiscal year, I would launch a special 2 month "get everyone wanting a DS" program, where the triforce, nes, mario, and any other special addition DS's come out (about 6-7 different DS's in those two months).

Also, Ian, you wondered why the give the late adopters the best stuff? Well, simply, they are the ones that are the hardest to bring to your side. So, you need some sort of incentive to get them to buy the product. Price drops, pack-in specials, and different colors are all ways to attract the hardest group of customers. They screw over the early adopters becuase they know that they will by it anyways, even with a special addition or pack-in special. Except this time they did give them the Metriod Demo, which is a good start.

RobotorMarch 02, 2005

If I really wanted a new color I could always complain to best buy about something on my DS (scratches, a dead pixel, etc.) and exchange it for a new color. However I'm happy with platnium, even though that Black color is way rad.

And Bill you could always make your own triforce DS, a guy on the metroid metal boards makes his own decals for cheap. One of them is a way cool triforce design.

DjunknownMarch 02, 2005

More DS colors stateside? You bet!

I wonder if they'll make a special SNES edition....

GamefreakMarch 02, 2005

SNES? That would mean purple! Nooooooooooo! face-icon-small-tongue.gif
I think NES would appeal more to people, even if they have an SP one.
And the white one looks really sweet. That's the one I'm getting!

Oh and for those who don't like the blue, the baby blue and pink are supposed to be for girls, notice they launch on the same date as Nintendogs?

However I really hope Nintendo also releases the "guy versions" of those two colors (ie the fire red and dark blue from SP).

I also hope they release a true black, and not that dark grey...

KDR_11kMarch 03, 2005

Well, if you went with the PAL SNES you wouldn't have any purple in there...

MrPMarch 03, 2005

Dammit! Why couldn't they release the black and white ones first instead of the ugly grey variation? Now instead of looking like crap, the DS looks like a valid iPod companion. If they'd done this from the start, they'd at least gain back the people who buy the PSP instead because it looks cooler.

CHENMarch 03, 2005

Candy Pink compels me.
