Nintendo NCL's head of public relations talks about Nintendo DS sales and their plans for the Revolution at E3.

Ken Toyota, chief of public relations at Nintendo NCL, talked with Japanese online magazine ITmedia yesterday.

Although Toyota proudly discussed survey results showing an increase in both the older and female markets with the Nintendo DS, did not deny underwhelming game sales. The Nintendo representative stated that bundled software and GBA compatibility curbed the need for immediate game purchases in both markets. He also stated that the delay of Puppy Times, which Nintendo hopes will be a big seller in Japan, hurt sales.

Mr. Toyota also reiterated that Nintendo plans to unveil the Revolution at E3, but made it clear than Nintendo is currently unsure of how much to show. Nintendo wants to convey their next system's uniqueness, but doesn't want to reveal all of its cards. Whether Nintendo will show concept art, demo footage or playable hardware is still undetermined.

A similar article at GameSpot includes a couple figures that are missing from PGC's coverage.

According to a recent Club Nintendo survey, 22 percent of DS owners are female, which represents a 7 percent increase since the last survey was taken. Use of the DS among the over-19 "mature" set has also risen from 49 to 59 percent.

Regardless of what of the Revolution is shown at E3 at the very least I would like to see some sort of controller. The controls for the console is the big ? regarding the Revolution. Any worries we have about what direction Nintendo is going in can be relieved or confirmed by seeing the controller. Even if the controller design freaks us out I'd rather see it then get all anxious about the unknown. Even if all they have is a early mockup I want to see it.

Plus it's good for Nintendo to get some feedback anyway. If they show up with Power Gloves and everyone absolutely freaks there's still time for them to rethink things a bit. Sure Nintendo doesn't want competitors stealing ideas but if there are some very non-familiar ideas being tossed around it benefits Nintendo to get some feedback from gamers and it gives us some time to soak things in.

It's like how a lot of people had a knee jerk reaction to Wind Waker's graphics but then as more time passed until the game's release a lot of those same people changed their mind and got used to the new look.

Darn. They're going to be a year behind PS3, despite constantly saying the opposite.

Releasing "too much information" at E3 5-6 months ahead of time doesn't make sense if it were really to be out in Oct/Nov.

MarioFebruary 04, 2005

Of course it's not going to be out in 2005, the GameCube just came out in 2001, and 2002 where I live, I don't want it to have a 3 and a half year lifespan.

A year behind the PS3? Where do you get that considering we don't know anything about when either console will launch? face-icon-small-tongue.gif I'm guessing they'll both launch in 2006.

What? I *really* doubt the PS3 will be out this year...

What he said. They're slated for a mid-2006 release last I heard.

The only console that will probably be playable is the Xbox 360 or whatever the hell its called. So Nintendo shouldnt have playable software IMO (Zelda should be the centerpiece of their floor) but talking about it for a bit at the conference is fine... Maybe even explain the idea behind it nothing more..

WuTangTurtleFebruary 04, 2005

Im fully registrating to E3 Tommorow!

I hope to god, all the gods, that Nintendo will explain the Revolution to the E3 attendees, and not just the media. My friends were pissed off that Halo 2 was not present on the show room floor.

I wish i could somehow get into the Nintendo Conference while im at E3, lol.

I have secret documents from a Gamefaqs forum poster

BlkPaladinFebruary 05, 2005

I wouldn't too hopefully about seeing a controller since that is usally the last thing that Nintendo shows.

nickmitchFebruary 05, 2005

Well at least they'll have some footage so we can check out te graphics.
That's the least they can show.

Kirby_PopStarFebruary 06, 2005

Is it just me or does anyone else think that Nintendo is in no position to not just blow their freaking wad of information on the Revolution at E3? It's a damned TRADE SHOW, that's what it's for. Are they gonna conceal it so long that the consumer gets hyped into a competitor's console instead?

Infernal MonkeyFebruary 07, 2005

I'm probably the only person in the world who doesn't give a rats arse about the Revolution (or PS3 and Xbox 90210). tpg.gif

KirbySStarFebruary 15, 2005

I'd find it hard to be excited about anything living down in Austrailia, Infernal. face-icon-small-tongue.gif
