Our import partners at Lik-Sang notified us that they finally have a picture and price for the crazy Resident Evil 4 chainsaw controller.

Blood and all.

This hefty unit appears to have all the standard GameCube buttons, even though you hold it just like a real chainsaw, with one hand on the back and the other hand on the side. The controller has its own audio chip to generate a realistic chainsaw sound while you play. The controller's price has been set at $49.95 USD. If you're interested in pre-ordering one, hit the link above.

RE4 Chainsaw Controller Officially Announced

NubyTech and Capcom verify retailer postings of this absurd controller.

CAPCOM AND NUBYTECH REVEAL HORRIFYING RESIDENT EVIL 4 CHAINSAW CONTROLLER FOR NINTENDO GAMECUBE™

LOS ANGELES, Calif., November 17, 2004 – Capcom and Nubytech® unveiled today the Resident Evilâ 4 Chainsaw Controller for the Nintendo GameCube™. While Resident Evil 4 is certainly the most anticipated third party title on the Nintendo GameCube, the Chainsaw Controller will quickly become the most popular peripheral in hardcore gamers’ and series loyalists’ hearts. A growing topic in the gaming community ever since the initial sketches were released to the press, this truly unique accessory is coming to reality January 11, 2005 when it is available alongside the game.

Designed with an actual chainsaw lying in the middle of the R&D lab during brainstorming sessions, this sculpted controller comes with a built-in sound chip, imitating the roar of the powerful weapon. The attention to detail goes as far as having gory blood marks on the blade. When not being wielded to destroy the on screen enemies, the Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Controller can rest on its display stand, on top on your TV or trophy case.

“NubyTech’s development team worked very closely with Capcom to develop this unique, one of a kind controller,” stated Paul Chen, president and chief operating officer, NubyTech. “We plan to shock the world with this revolutionary and die hard collectible product.”

“The Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Controller is very impressive. It is an incredible enhancement to the game experience,” said Todd Thorson, director of marketing, Capcom Entertainment. “The Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Controller is the ultimate ‘wow’ peripheral for Resident Evil fans and brings horror game action to a whole new level.”

I'll wait for the PS2 version face-icon-small-tongue.gif

$50 US for a controller that looks impossible to use, I'LL TAKE EIGHT. It should come with Doom 2 on GBA for the hell of it.

I expect this to say "BEST SELLER" on the box!

Tunnelvision456November 12, 2004

I'd almost be tempted to get it just to collect it, never realy intending to use it. it's such a strange thing and looks so nice that it's tempting.

Gamestop.com has it listed for $29.99. I just looked, however, they don't have a picture with the listing.

"Designed with an actual Chainsaw lying in the middle of the R&D lab during brainstorming sessions, this massive sculpted controller comes with a built-in sound chip, imitating the roar of the powerful weapon. The attention to detail goes as far as having gory blood marks on the blade. When not chopping Zombies into pieces, the Resident Evil 4 Controller can rest on its stylish stand, on top on your TV, well at sight for the bill collectors knocking at your door. Very impressive in size, it will bring you fear and respect at the same time, yet light and ergonomic, it stays comfortable and does not affect gameplay at all. Holding it in your hands for sure makes you feel like a man; now who said the Cube was for kids?"

now that's a write-up! too bad there's no force feedback/blade-moving action

This looks f*cking cool. It looks totally unusable as a controller but that's not the idea, is it?

I don't feel like paying 50 bucks for it but it would interesting to see the reactions of my co-workers if I had it sitting on my desk.

KDR_11kNovember 12, 2004

This would fit snugly into any HR department. Sysadmins prefer the real deal, though.

I don't even understand the prospect of this controller... is the chainsaw a critical part of RE4 gameplay or something??

No, not at all. THAT'S THE BEAUTY OF IT. It's simply a familiar object from the game.

vuduNovember 12, 2004

The only thing that could possibly make this controller better, would be if it came packaged in a burlap sack that you could wear on your head while playing the game.

MaleficentOgreNovember 12, 2004

is that cel shaded blood on the controller. too kiddy for my taste.

KDR_11kNovember 12, 2004

Now imagine your friends coming over for a round of Mario Kart and you hand one of them THIS...

King of TwitchNovember 12, 2004

Why does the stand look like it was molded from a pile of poo? Pretty unique though.

RennyNovember 13, 2004

I guess they had some of that lying around the office....

Come on Raven, you've got work to do!

A blood-splattered chainsaw controller is too kiddy for your taste? Geez, you must be the biggest bad ass on the face of the earth.

Kingvudu proves yet again that you have to make sarcasm explicit on the internet.
