Nintendo Begins Shipping DS Systems!

That doesn't mean you'll get one any sooner, unless you work for Nintendo.

According to the Seattle Post, Nintendo has begun shipping DS handheld units from their distribution center in North Bend, WA (check out PGC's tour of the North Bend facility by following this link). This does not indicate an early launch of the system. Nintendo is simply shipping them out now so they will be in stores and ready for the November 21st launch date. What it does mean is that there might be a handful of stores across the country that accidentally (or purposefully) break the date and begin selling the systems early. This same thing recently happened to Microsoft and Bungie's Halo 2 for Xbox.

In a related story, some Nintendo promoters received their DS systems today. They'll be using their systems to spread the word on tours in various countries to get people hyped up for the system launch.

OMG this is gonna be torture, i work at Sam Goody, and I'll be seeing it on every lunch break, thinking about it, knowing it will be back there, fighting my will to steal it...........

Is nintendo gonna penalize stores if they sell them early??

GamefreakNovember 06, 2004

well they could but I doubt they really care if a couple of stores sell them a day or two early.

KDR_11kNovember 06, 2004

Of course. Any store that breaks the date will face legal action.

theRPGFreakNovember 06, 2004

loose job at Target....play a DS early.....choices......

PaleMike Gamin, Contributing EditorNovember 06, 2004

but plenty of stores broke the date for the gamecube...remember the whole "loose" release date thing?

WuTangTurtleNovember 06, 2004

hey, if i can't get it early at my own store, there's no way a replay customer can get one before me! But hey if you got one of those replay certificates you can at least save some money off the DS! Too bad they don't let workers into replay program, I would be rich, rich i tell ya!

There was a rumor that some of the 3rd party games would be released a week earlier than the DS system, any confirmation of that, you people in retail? I'm sure setting aside a spare Feel the Magic wouldn't hurt...

But on the other hand, keep your day jobs (Bad joke intended.). No sense in getting canned and facing Nintendo's wrath.

What if we don't want our jobs? =P I'll check in on game release dates for ya next time I'm at work...

WuTangTurtleNovember 07, 2004

According to Gamespot's DS page, their are a few 3rd party games being released a bit earlier than the launch date of the DS. Madden, Rayman, Feel the Magic, and some others are listed as so.

Release Date Policies, pfft my friend works at an EBgame store and he got 2 Halo 2 games, one for him and another for someone else last saturday, His manager agreed to sell him the game but not ring up the transaction untill the official release date.

Igot to play halo 2 a day earlier than him because i know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy that is a manager at a Hollywood Video store so we got a free 1 day rental, lol.

By the way even know this is off topic, yes im telling you the truth. If you have the right connections you can get away without a lot of stuff. I have to say though Bungie could have done alot more to improve the game, especially since they had 3 years to work on it. Don't get me wrong though it is a good game, and i will be buying it becasue of online play.

At Gamestop, we haven't recieved any DS titles yet. We have gotten some angry people who found out that preorders were sold out though ^_^

Kirby_PopStarNovember 08, 2004

Any retailer that breaks launch will be fined 25 thousand dollars. However, if someone does break launch, the places around it can release theirs too, no penalty. I'm hoping someone, somewhere, will take one for the team. =P

Hmmmmmm...

*walks into Target, near video game area*

"Man, I can't believe EB is selling DS's but no games! What?! They don't have them here either?!"

*Leaves, comes back hopeful in an hour*
