When in doubt, play this wonderful puzzler with a friend next to you.

Between all the games that Nintendo personally announced for its home console, Snipperclips seemed the oddest sounding one. It is a puzzler, specifically made to release on the Switch's Nintendo eShop. While that sounds like a throwaway game at first, Snipperclips is one of the better co-op experiences I got to try at my day in Frankfurt. It requires you to actively work together towards a goal, figure stuff out as you go along and have a good time above all. The game gave me very good vibes when I played it.

The concept of Snipperclips is that you and a friend become shapes. These crazy fellows must help each other to complete an objective based puzzle. You can walk, jump, rotate and transform to find your best way through a level by using the Joy-Con's capabilities. Transforming is done by cutting away at each other, which you do by overlapping and tilting in certain places. By doing this effectively you not only change their appearance, but also how the world around them will react. While mistakes can easily be made in that sense, a push of a button brings a character back its default form.

One of the puzzles we got to try in our demo had two parts. At first, we had to reach a higher platform to push in a button. This button, in turn, would release a basketball that needed to be thrown into a hoop. This sounds easy, but you are required to catch said basketball as it falls. We had to figure out what shapes would work in the specific scenarios and would allow us to complete both targets in quick succession. It became instantly fun to keep tilting, moving and lining up our characters until we nailed this perfectly.

The puzzles become harder and trickier after this, but I never found them to be frustrating. It was clean fun to figure it out together and simply talk it through. What helped to bring this point home was the art style, which was chipper and fun. I was in pure awe with a colleague as we were sitting behind the tablet with our little Joy-Cons. Games like Snipperclips are exactly the experiences I want to play on the Nintendo Switch, so I am hoping that Nintendo picks up more stuff like it!
