Animal Crossing

by Adam Kontras - September 18, 2002, 7:23 pm EDT

What's this? "Grumpy pants" Adam loves a game? Could it be?

More flak than you can imagine people, all because I gave Mario a friggin' 8.0. As well I had some negative impressions of the solo mode in Super Monkey Ball 2 which pretty much makes me "Mr. Negative" 'round these parts.

Well look out, because I'm absolutely in love with Animal Crossing. Let me give you some insight:

There were so many games coming out this year that I made a "must have" wish list and have stuck to it "oh-so" strictly. I just can't afford all these amazing games, so some discipline was in order.

Animal Crossing was nowhere near that list.

My wife Jessica read a review in the Dallas Star Newspaper and really wanted it. Anyone reading this can fully appreciate how quickly you do whatever the hell your wife/girlfriend wants if they actually want a videogame. Women who like videogames are rare.

So there I was last night buying this girly little Animal Crossing game for my wife. Sure I'd play it, but it was mostly for her.

Whatever. It's all I've done since I plopped it in my GameCube last night. I may be more addicted to this game then anything I've ever played. The aspect of trading things online is so genius I can't even begin to describe it. Anyone who says "this isn't my type of game" needs to re-think things. It's truly the Nintendo difference in every conceivable way. From designing your own clothes, to rearranging your house, to catching fish and bugs, to hopping in a train and visiting your friend's village (which will have completely different characters, fruit and fish) - the game is completely enveloping.

Anyway, I'll cut the impressions short. Just take it from someone who had zero interest in this title yesterday that this baby is special. I cannot wait until tomorrow when Tom Nook builds me a bigger house! Woohoo! I need help.
