Street Fighter Alpha 3

Elite GBA port ahoy! Beat 'em up, guys!

I played Street Fighter Alpha 3 for quite a while today. All of the original characters were selectable, and there where five slots for secret characters on the select screen. I'm assuming these include Yun, Maki and Eagle.

There's another new way to turn six buttons into four in SFA3. You get your quick and fierce attacks with the simple button presses; you get mediums by pressing B or A while holding L or R. You can switch these around as you please, though. You can make the two button attacks into jabs or fierces, too. It's actually easy to get used to, just ask my medium-poke-master Vega. It feels natural!

Doing supers is a bit different - instead of the motion and a single punch or kick of whatever strength you want, you use A+B together. I kept doing Vega's crazy wall leap super when I meant to do the flip kick, but, hey, there wasn't exactly a manual. I'm assuming you can do a level 1 super while having three bars, but I couldn't figure it out.

The characters have their story bits in the beginning (Japanese in this one), and have the same specific characters for the story advancement bits. There wasn't any dialogue in this version though. It 'blinked' there so I'm assuming they're putting them in. If I have time later, I might check and see if they have the endings in. Another little note, in the arcade mode, the stages were random instead of the opponents'. Maybe some aren't done yet?

ALL of the little technical elements are included - alpha counters, blue and red flashes, and great looking super effects. It looks REALLY exact.

In any case, SFA3 is one of the most surprisingly impressive games at the show so far. It's a very accurate port.

Quick note: there don't seem to be any multiplayer link setups. Bummer.
