Star Wars: The Clone Wars

by Daniel Bloodworth - May 22, 2002, 3:10 pm EDT

Lucas Arts is bringing all the action of Episode II to GameCube this fall.

The Clone Wars is on display here at E3, but unfortunately it isn’t fully available for play. Representatives are on hand demonstrating the game, but I wasn’t able to play it for myself.

The game seems to revolve around vehicular combat with specific mission objectives. Taking control of Mace Windu, Anakin, or Obi Wan, you fight in the last few battles from the movie plus a number of other battles that bridge the gap between Episode II and Episode III. There are eight vehicles planned for the final game including a gunship, a tank, speeder bikes, and even on-foot missions.

There are six multiplayer games planned as well. The most interesting has you split into two teams, building bases and attempting to capture the other team’s outpost.

Graphically the game does a great job of recreating the look of the film. The frame rate is a little shaky, but it’s obviously due to the massive number of vehicles and troops scattered about the landscape. I would estimate that there at least one hundred troops on the screen during the gunship mission, but the representative claims that they are aiming to have thousands of infantry before the game’s release this fall.
