Wave Race: Blue Storm

by Joe Fletcher - August 25, 2001, 9:24 am EDT

Splish splash! Fletch takes to the waves and tackles Wave Race: Blue Storm. Obviously Billy loves it...but what about someone who's not a huge fan of the series?

I'm not too big a fan of the game series, so I wasn't expecting too much from it this time around. It's definitely been cleaned up from its last incarnation at E3, playing much smoother and with a lot more precise control. It might actually be worth picking up this time around, which is much more than I had to say about it at E3.

The water effects were absolutely amazing, watching everyones' jaws drop on Aspen Lake was great. You can see perfectly down to the bottom of the lake, watching fish move around and other water life animate was awesome. There was absolutely no slowdown at all, no matter what was on screen. Absolutely amazing.

The control was also spot on, which was great. It actually felt like I was wave riding, trying to nudge my craft against the wake of everyone else. With a rumble feature, this game would be pretty incredible, with the control already achieved and the engine making the controller rumbling in your hands, the game would be incredibly immersive.

Bottom line is, this is the most surprising game for me at the show. Complete turn around for the thing, and I can't wait.
