NBA Courtside 2002

by Ty Shughart - May 18, 2001, 3:55 pm EDT

Ty balls all over the coast.

Although Courtside is visually the least impressive GameCube game on the floor, it's easily worth a look, or better yet, a thorough playing.

The pleasant surprise is the excellent control - you use the C-stick to pass with minimal thought. Turbo/Adrenaline is easily accessed with the shoulder buttons, and the main actions are done with A and B. There's a nice detail or two - for example, the benched players' heads will follow the ball...

As for the graphics - while the court looks real, the crowd is made up of paper cut-outs, the players have visible poly corners, and the basketball changes directions at a sharp angle when you swish it. It's probably just shown a bit early - it did freeze up while I was playing it. The solid play is there, they just need to polish it up a bit.
