Developed by TT Games, Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game continues the Lego adventure series, this time covering the four movies in the Disney Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. 

The game appears to continue the long tradition of exploring the ridiculous side of existing franchises, though in this case, Captain Jack Sparrow should give plenty of humorous material by himself. In one stage, he is seen being chased by natives in the background, then on subsequent runs, he is seen chasing them, or they join together to chase a wild boar.

Lego Pirates of the Caribbean makes it easy to see which aspects of the environment are interactive -- they're the ones make out of Legos. Like its predecessors, the game includes heavy exploration and puzzle environments.

In the game, players can switch between characters such as Captain Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, and others from the movies. Players can navigate using either the D-pad or the Circle Pad.

The 3D depth effect is subtle; it always keeps the player's character in focus, while changing perspective, and thus depth of field. Thanks to the graphics power of the 3DS, the developers were able to use the assets from the HD-capable consoles, and the game features lighting effects that were not possible without "cheating" on the Wii. However, TT Games notes that the Wii and DS versions are their most popular, and so they won't be skimping in those editions.

The game will use Street Pass for sword dueling, though I wasn't able to check out that feature.

Lego Pirates of the Caribbean is yet another edition of Lego adventuring familiar to fans, but it brings in the variety of characters and locations of the Pirates of the Caribbean world, which should provide a new spin. It is scheduled to launch in May.
