OK, since we've continually received a stream of pretty similar questions about our PGC E3 Video we decided to compile a FAQ. If you've had any questions give it a look.
Since we are getting a TREMENDOUS response to our E3 video, we’ve decided to provide a few additional details, especially since there have been many questions raised that deserve our attention. We’ll update this as things change and our plans progress! If you have any thing we’re missing, send it to staff@planetgamecube.com
Why are you doing a Video?
These days the Internet is going broke with ads which aren’t paying server bills. Simultaneously, Planet GameCube has been getting increasingly popular which has forced us to move to a dedicated server & increase our monthly costs. Since we’re independently run out of pocket, Billy’s wallet is starting to hurt really badly.
Instead of making Planet GameCube’s content subscription based or asking for donations, we are attempting to pay our bills by making and selling an E3 video. We hope that it will be something that benefits the online Nintendophile community, helps us stay afloat, and gives us extra incentive to record this historic moment.
What Formats will you offer?
We are currently offering two formats. CD and VHS. Each format will take advantage of its respective medium, thus each will offer some variations on what they cover and how.
Is there going to be anything on the video that isn't contained on the CDs and vice-versa?
Yes. Because of the nature of the two mediums the VHS video will have much more movie coverage, likely including near complete footage from the Nintendo press conference, extended game demo footage, footage from interviews, and more. Since CDs aren’t so well equipped for having extended movies the CDs will end up being more action-oriented with ‘Best of’ clips for the most part, but the CDs will also feature our full text coverage of the show, loads of screen shots, and other more CD-friendly materials.
Will it work on Mac?
The short (and safe) answer regarding Mac playback is "no".
Long answer...
While it might be possible to use the plain ISO9660 file format to allow the CD to also be (theoretically) viewed on a Mac, it wouldn't be flawless, and frankly we haven't done any Mac testing to ensure that the remaining experience would be a pleasant one. The video clips themselves are compatible with Microsoft's Media Player 7, though, which is also available for Mac. The long answer is still "a BIG, FAT, GIANT maybe".
Will you do a PAL Version?
While we’d love to make (and $ELL) a version of our video to our readers in PAL territories, at this point in time we will be unable to do a PAL version. Give us a break though – this is our first endeavor!
Will you take forms of payment besides Credit Cards?
Yes. We will soon begin taking full orders, at which point we will accept checks, money orders and possibly other forms of payment as well.
What’s up with Pre-Orders?
The pre-orders were set up to help us get an idea of how many people were interested in our video more than anything.
Some people have worried about people with pre-orders getting goodies or their videos faster. This won’t be the case as we’ll be struggling to get all videos and CDs out the door as quickly as humanly possible.
For the sake of logistics and planning, pre-orders could only be taken with credit card.
What is Gaming Edge?
You can read all about Gaming Edge here.
Although Gaming Edge is associated with Planet GameCube and other CloudChaser sites, it is independently run.
Gaming Edge ships to anywhere in the world.
PGC has teamed with Gaming Edge and now allows you to directly pre-order or import any titles we cover that they have in stock. Although we’d encourage our readers to shop around to find deals and such, we are proud to promote GamingEdge and are grateful for their cooperation in this promotion.
As a bonus – we are planning to include Gaming Edge coupons with all orders.
When will you accept full orders?
We will begin accepting full orders just after E3 and just before we’re finished producing the videos. We don’t want you to start sending you money until we’re a bit further along with this project.
Will you Have Direct Feed?
We will ask all developers at the show for direct feed. How much we get is up to them. Wish us luck!
When will you ship the videos out?
At this point in time, we honestly cannot say. We have yet to film the video and need to worry about editing footage, compiling it, duplication, production and shipping it out to all of you? How long do you think it will take us? We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us!
That said, we will all be working overtime to be getting the videos complete and shipped out as quickly as possible. From our estimate, the video will be ready within 2-4 weeks after we return from E3. Stay tuned.
What kind of shipping will be available?
GamingEdge offers many options for shipping for all outgoing orders and this will apply to our video. It has 2-3 day Air-Mail, 4-5 Business Days, International Shipping which is usually 4-7 days. Shipping costs are separate though, so you can choose which method ships you best.
Because we are going through GamingEdge, we will be able to ship the video Internationally, which means anywhere in the world (yes, even Canada).
What’s up with E3 Goodies?
E3 goodies are usually stuff (“junk”) being handed out at the show. Most of it is “cool” simply because it has game mascots or company logos adorning it. If you go to E3 and are at least partially a geek, you end up with tons of this treasure/trash coming home with you.
To cement our E3 Video experience, we decided to include a piece of “E3 junk” with as many pre-ordered combo packs as our ability to gather goodies allows. We’ll be brining duffle bags and other gear for loading up on swag but we can’t make any promises.
Will you have coverage of other systems / games shown at E3?
Not so much, as we are a Nintendo site and will be concentrating on covering Nintendo’s systems & products. We do plan to include coverage on some of the “best of” other systems. We are gamers after all and want to see the Dreamcast’s last hurrah, anything significant the PS2 is beinging to the table, and just how X-Box measures up.
Will you do any more videos in the future?
Maybe! So far the response for our E3 Video has been great. PGC is committed to keeping itself alive to cover the GameCube and GBA systems. We’ve been doing so in one form or another for over 2 years and have been since the system was first being whispered about.
