The standalone sequel to Hollow Knight, titled Hollow Knight: Silksong, will be releasing on Nintendo Switch.

First promised as a stretch goal for the original Kickstarter campaign, Silksong was originally meant to be a DLC expansion for Hollow Knight. Team Cherry announced today that the scope of the campaign became too big to be an expansion, and they'll be releasing it as a full sequel. Silksong stars Hornet - an ally who aided the player in the first game's story - and takes place in a new kingdom with new enemies, characters, and quests. Hornet's moveset will be a different style from the first game's Knight, being described in the game's reveal trailer as lethal and acrobatic.

Backers of the original Kickstarter campaign for Hollow Knight will receive Silksong for free. Anyone who pledged at least $10AUD to the campaign will be eligible to receive the Nintendo Switch version at launch. Team Cherry did not announce a release window.
