Nintendo held their shareholder briefing following this morning's earnings release today, and made a couple of announcements during the presentation.

  • Nintendo Switch Online has seen more than 8 million users since launch, including users part of family plans but not counting free trials. With Switch sell-through (to consumers) of approximately 30m, this gives the service an attach rate of more than 25%.
  • Sales outside of North America and Japan saw major growth with Switch: European sales are up 40% compared to the same period last year, while non-Japan regions of Asia are already 7% of the userbase when the 3DS could not crack 1%.
  • The "Super Nintendo World" attraction at Universal Studios Tokyo is still on track to release in time for next summer's Olympic Games, while the Mario movie helmed by Innovation is now slated for a 2022 theatrical release.
  • Nintendo will open a store in Japan similar to Nintendo NY later this year, which will be located in a new complex called Shibuya Parco and be called "Nintendo Tokyo".
  • Dragalia Lost is slated to expand to more English-speaking regions: the UK, Canada, and Australia are specifically cited. Meanwhile, Fire Emblem Heroes will be localized into Brazilian Portuguese and expand its South American reach shortly after its second anniversary this weekend.
