Why Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes Isn't on Wii, 3DS

The Marvel heroes proved too big and powerful for the Wii and 3DS to contain.

While Disney Infinity came to Wii and 3DS last year, the Disney Infinity 2.0 platform, kicking off with Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes, is not. The reasoning is simple, Disney and the team at Avalanche Software focused on the platforms that were best able to help deliver on their vision for Disney Infinity 2.0.

"They chose the platforms that were able to support the features and top quality play experiences Disney wanted to deliver to gamers worldwide," a Disney representative told us.

Last year's Wii version, while similar to the Wii U, Xbox 360, and PS3 versions, lacked the online component and multiplayer in certain modes, both aspects that are going to be an even greater focus for the series going forward. The 3DS version, on the other hand, was a critically derided mini-game collection that barely made use of the creative ideals of the franchise.

Don't worry, though. Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes is still slated to come out on Wii U this fall, and it will support any figures or power discs you bought for your Wii, 3DS, or whatever version you bought.
