Why We're Hyped is a new Feature here on Nintendo World Report where the staff will be sharing their personal reasons for being excited about upcoming games. This time we take a look at why the staff can't wait to get their hands on Pikmin 3.

Are you also hyped up about Pikmin 3's August 4th release? Share your own reasons for being hyped in the comments section below.

Additionally, you can check out Daan Koopman's review of the Japanese version of Pikmin 3 here!

Justin Berube, Staff Writer

I was able to try Pikmin 3 at E3 and was very impressed, especially with the co-op Mission Mode. I had a great time with the demo and could see the potential for interesting gameplay mechanics, so I can't wait to get my hands on the final product. Also, when Pikmin 3 is released the grueling wait for both a new Pikmin game and a decent first party Wii U title will finally be over. Furthermore, I figure Pikmin 3's release is the unofficial relaunch of the Wii U since Nintendo appears to be trying to publish a new game each month for the platform, thus ending the software drought.

Pikmin has been one of my favorite Nintendo franchises since its introduction on the Gamecube, so any new entry is a huge excitement for me. The fact that it's been almost a decade since the last installment, with Miyamoto regularly hinting of a sequel along the way, only intensifies this excitement. When I went to E3 last year the Pikmin 3 demo station was one of my favorites, and I went back to it five times over the course of the show. This game alone would have sold me a Wii U even if there hadn't been other things I was interested in.

I was enthralled with the original Pikmin. In fact, shortly after I got the game I went on vacation, and made the mistake of taking my Gamecube with me. I spent the entire time sitting in our motel playing Pikimin and loving every minute of it. My favorite part was how detailed and fun the world was, and Pikmin 3 looks to be that same cute, slightly off-realistic world cranked up to 11. I can't wait to see all the little details and touches they've added in HD!

When I played the original Pikmin game, I did it in a way which mirrored Olimar's experience.  I played the game during night shifts of a summer college desk job, meaning that I was playing the game in a quiet environment, all by myself. Olimar may have been discovering a new world, but I was totally ignoring the world around me, focusing solely on watching him gather up these strange little creatures. When Pikmin 2 came around, I was initially a bit hesitant, as I didn't want to tarnish my sacred memories of the first game. After diving in, however, I found myself enchanted all over again.

Pikmin is a rare series that feels new to me, no matter what.  Even on my fifth playthrough of the original game, it feels foreign and alien to me, all the while feeling strangely familiar. It's the best kind of feeling, and one I can't wait to go through all over again.  I'm literally days away from playing it, and I can't get over the feeling that I'm in for one of the best games of the year.

Neal Ronaghan, Director

I don't know if hyped is the right term for my anticipation for Pikmin 3. I enjoyed Pikmin 1 despite abhorring the time restrictions, and I never played Pikmin 2 until last year's Wii re-release. I love the aesthetic of the series, but the gameplay, mainly because of all the time limits, never fully clicked with me. I wasn't truly excited for Pikmin 3 until this past E3, where the single-player and multiplayer was better displayed. I'm excited for the possibilities of Bingo Battle and co-op, and I look forward to living in that world. As of this moment, I plan on getting Pikmin 3 on day one, but I'm not totally married to that idea. At the GameStop Pikmin 3 event last week, I played the demo a few times. It was a challenge stage that featured a time limit. I loved it, but kept on wanting to explore it at my own pace. The game didn't allow me do that, and thus, I reached another Pikmin stalemate, where so much of it is something that hits me right in the heart, but then some design decisions just stress me out and annoy me.

I'm way hyped myself, despite (or because of?) knowing that the gameplay will be only marginally different than the previous games. I really look forward to seeing this world in HD.
Why doesn't Metroid ever take off his armor?

The Pikmin games were some of my favourite Cube titles.  At E3 2001 when everyone was drooling for Smash Bros., it was Pikmin that really attracted my attention.  Part of what I liked was that EAD and Miyamoto were making it but it wasn't a sequel.  It was the sort of creative project I used to associate with Nintendo.

Pikmin 3 seems to be more of a conventional sequel that fits the less daring or interesting Nintendo of 2013, but with only two previous games the series is still new enough to feel fresh.  A conventional-but-great sequel is fine when the series is fresh enough that the player can't guess all the tropes yet.  This is my most anticipated Wii U title and at some point I will own this game.

But I feel I must have some willpower and not buy a Nintendo console that I currently feel has no future where I figure this game will be one of the few that truly interests me.  I didn't like the Wii and don't want another one and won't buy another Nintendo console until I feel that they've learned from their mistakes and are commited to improving.  I don't see that yet and I'm not going to support Nintendo until they do.  If I give in and buy a Wii U for Pikmin 3 I'm essentially giving Nintendo the message that I'll put up with their crap if they toss me the odd bone.

I will buy Pikmin 3 for the Wii U when the Wii U becomes a console worth supporting or when it has been discontinued.

So torn about this game. I liked Pikmin 1 and 2...a lot. But there always seemed to be something missing or slightly off about them to me. By all accounts it looks like Pikmin 3 will be far more polished, so maybe this is the one that will elevate the series to beloved status in my heart. Also, I am looking awfully hard at Mario & Luigi: Dream Team... Who would have thought the $30 eShop credit I got after buying SMTIV would cause so much inner turmoil?
