Prolonged Gameplay Strikes Again!
« on: October 24, 2002, 12:21:50 AM »
Another gamer loses his life to negligence at an internet café.

Members of the gaming community were shocked when reports of a 24-year-old male died after http://www.planetgamecube.com/news.cfm?action=item&id=3527”>86 hours of pure gameplay at a Korean internet cafĂ©.  Now another member of the Taiwanese gaming community has fallen victim to a similar overdose after 32 hours straight.  Saturday morning in Fengyuan, a cafĂ© employee found 27-year-old Lien Wen-cheng dead on the building’s bathroom floor, foaming at the mouth and bleeding from the nose.  It is believed the young man died from exhaustion.

According to psychologist Peter Watson, certain games induce a feeling of constant danger.  And when such mental stress is combined with prolonged exposure and sleeplessness it can wreak havoc on the body.  Hopefully two incidents in the same month will be enough to raise public awareness on overdosing and help prevent any more of these horrible deaths.
