Disney Epic Mickey, designed by Deus Ex creator Warren Spector and developed by Junction Point, stars Mickey Mouse in an unexpected role.

As the story goes, Sorcerer Yen Sid (Fantasia) has created an universe called the Wasteland to house DisneyÂ’s forgotten efforts, which includes theme park attractions, movies, and characters. One day, Mickey Mouse accidentally spills paint thinner on the world, creating a dark world ruled by the Blot. DisneyÂ’s first creation, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, tries to destroy this threat, sending Mickey on a journey of redemption to correct his mistake.

Electronic Entertainment Expo 2010:

Mickey has cartoon-inspired abilities, most prominently the ability to erase and paint elements into the gameÂ’s world. Using his paint brush, Mickey can "paint in" missing platforms to reach new places, or erase them to reveal new passages. Paint and paint thinner also plays heavily into the combat, allowing the player to both of them to attack enemies. Attacks are controlled with the Wii Remote, with players pointing at the screen and using either the paint or the paint thinner.

Epic Mickey features a gameplay style Warren Spector and Junction Point have described as “Playstyle Matters”. Decisions that players make affect the outcome of the story as well as the universe. The game also employs a mix of platforming, adventure, and light role-playing elements.  There are movie screens in each level, and Mickey can jump into them and explore levels based on MickeyÂ’s classic shorts. At E3, a level based on Steamboat Willie was demoed. These levels serve double-duty as gateways through the worlds in Wasteland.

Players will also be able to collect over 75 virtual Disney pins by completing challenges and other tasks, and other collectibles can also be found.

Disney Epic Mickey will be released Holiday 2010.
