Nintendo Brings Kirby into the Big Time
« on: September 03, 2002, 01:09:10 PM »
Nintendo's going to turn their star-riding puffball into a superstar!

Nintendo has already made huge stars out of Mario, Link, and all the Pokemon. Now, its Kirby's time to hit it big. Beginning with Kirby's new TV series, "Kirby: Right Back At Ya!" Nintendo is relaunching Kirby big time, with a $10 million promotion. The new promotion is set to make Kirby as popular as the Pokemon. We're talking everything from toys, to games, to TV shows, to kid's meal toys, to pajamas. A home video will be released in November, and the new Kirby video game will hit in December. Nintendo is working with 4kids Entertainment for the new animated series, who they also work with on Pokemon. The new TV show is part of the new FOXBOX lineup, which was designed to boost the network's slouching Saturday morning ratings. When asked what the appeal of Kirby was, Nintendo's Gail Tilden said it was because he can be tough when he needs to be and that he is, "so unassuming. He's like a pink round ball."
