In the interest of fairness so that no one is later blindsided at the end of the game, I should make sure that all players are aware that the option is open for me to send a player a pm stating they have a role this game that they actually do not have in order to use that to fool another player or cover up their actual role.
Years ago, back like around Mafia 16 or 17, the townies discovered they could compare role messages to discover who other legit townies are and it lead to a very quick townie victory. Since then, various methods have come up to combat this such as giving all townies different messages or using the same message for all townies and telling the rest of the players what that message is so it can be faked. Personally, I've always preferred the solution I came up with which is that the host can send a player a fake role pm for the player to screenshot and use instead. That way, it makes them worthless to compare and some players enjoyed using that method.
However, I realize that it has been sometime since I've hosted a game and I forgot to make this point clear from the start. So, some players who've only been playing recently or don't have the experience of past games which I've hosted may not be aware that this option is available. Therefore, it is best to mention it now so that players are aware that I've always had this option available and it can be used anytime it is requested.
That's all I'm going to say on the matter. I won't confirm or deny if this has happened yet but just a reminder that going by screenshots of roles for verification has long since been discredited as a 100% method of verification. It is up to player's to use their judgement and decide what they want to believe when it comes to possible role screenshots.
