Nintendo's June 2003 In Store Demo Disc
« on: June 09, 2003, 03:40:02 PM »
My store just got the new demo disc in today, and lo and behold, it actually has more than two games on it!

Demos:
Soul Caliber 2 (Same as Preview Disc)
Sonic Adventure DX (Same as Preview Disc)
P.N. 03
Ultimate Muscle
Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour

New Movies:
Gameboy Player
Soul Caliber 2
Mario Golf
Mega Man Transmission
The Hulk
The Matrix Reloaded
Wario World
NCAA 2004
ESRB Movie

Pretty nifty disc. P.N. 03 didn't seem so hot to me though, but I liked Mario Golf, despite the fact I sucked at it.
EDIT: Oh, I forgot to mention, but Nintendo seems to have gotten rid of the time limit for the demos, as one of my friends played Ultimate Muscle for over half an hour.

Wish we got in store demo discs like that in Australia. Latest one we got features playable demos of Zelda and Metroid. Plus some crappy old video clips for Mario Party 4, Star Fox and Mario Sunshine...

No wonder nobody is ever at the GC kiosks. This month, the Xbox in store demo disc has over ten playable demos. AND GC HAS TWO. HULK SMASH!

Did you get to play Mario Golf? If so, how was it?

I guess I should head out to my local store to see if they have this.

Our demos are cool, its just the controllers that take a beating.
the Xbox demos are Ok, but I haven't seen any PS2 demos. The PS2 ones are only in Grace Bros. in the city (the one next to David Jones).

Mario Golf looked pretty good, though I sucked hard at it. I sucked at the original too. The graphics look pretty good, though the camera was very glitchy if you pulled out too far or got stuck behind an object. They should be able to polish it up before release. Playable characters include Mario, Waluigi, Peach, Yoshi, Koopa Troopa, and Donkey Kong, and there were two selectable courses, Normal and Mushroom Kingdom.

Sonic played just like it did on the Preview Disc, so no surprises here. Same for Soul Caliber 2.

P.N. 03 was... unique... the controls were very difficult to use and you couldn't shoot unless you were standing still. It looked okay, but I just couldn't get past the controls and the fact you couldn't walk left or right, you just strafed.

I watched one of my friends play Ultimate Muscle, but it does looks pretty sweet if you like wrestling games. The cel-shading is pretty good and I have to admit it was funny when my friend's character started dancing on his opponent's face. Wacky stuff. All the voices were Japanese, so I don't know if that will change in the final version or not...

All the movies were brand new with new gameplay footage. I was most impressed with Mega Man, which looked VERY slick with cel-shading.

*sigh*.  No GameCube preview discs in my town.  Well, Future Shop still has their kiosk, but they have a stupid NHL game in instead of a demo disc.

No new disc in my area either.  All the stores in my area usually get their Cube demo discs very late, often months after the disc is released.  Usually the games featured are already out or are only like a week away by the time the stores get them.

Yet if I drive into downtown Vancouver the discs are usually up to date so it's not an overall Canada thing.  The suburbs just seem to get the new discs long after the major cities.  That seems pretty weird since Langley is like at the most 45 minutes from Vancouver (assuming you drive like a total slow a$$) so it's not like Nintendo reps have to travel all the way across BC to bring us the new disc or anything.
